Its funny that Mayou is mentioned as being more similar to Log than SAO.

Maou and Log share an author ^^

Ok just going to say this… For the people who like LH. cool.. i really don’t at all…. but not going to say it sucks. sao on the other hand. is more for me. LH Has no real sense of death. as in sao it does. In and out of the game world. also sao has no Magic..

SAO did a better job at keeping me entertained but Log Horizon did a better job at creating a believable MMO. SAO has three different MMOs in it and all three of them would be awful games irl. Elder Tale (the MMO in Log Horizon) has a few huge flaws in it that would hinder it’s success in the real world but at least it’d be playable. That being said, SAO was more entertaining because Log Horizon legitimately felt like a chore to watch sometimes because of slow and uninteresting things got. SAO looks like it’d be more fun to play (It wouldn’t be, but it looks that way.) but Elder Tale looks like it could actually exist as an MMO in the real world.

The only thing I really don’t like about Log Horizon is the feelings of the characters, when they realize they are trapped in a digital world. They are all like "Meh… let’s make the best out of it", there is no drama or crisis about this fact and this really bugs me out. They don’t even try to find solutions to get out of this world.

Finally! Someone who agrees that the lollita love triangle in Log Horizon was uncomfortable to watch. I always thought if Shiroe had to have a romance interest Henrietta would have been way more interesting, she’s mature and funny (aside of her obssession with Akatsuki) and let go of her crush for him graciously intead. Akatsuki seems a little like… obssessed, does she have other interests apart of Shiroe and ninja stuff? and Minori is growing up as a character still, she wants to be a strategist like Shiroe and help him too.
Anyway, it’s good to see someone say there is no comparison to make, apart of the scenario both series are different.

Main thing I’d like to add about the whole "log horizon loli" affair is that the way it is treated between the two is entirely different. First being that Akatsuki is actually a lot older than she appears and has more of an effect on her character and personality than just being a means to an end. While for Minori there is a great deal more depth and elements involved than SAO. Her and Sinoe have a lot of history, getting her out of desperate situations, teaching her to hold her own as a person which would lead anymore to admire the person who did that for them, top that up with her high hormonal state due to her age and having a crush for him is a lot more likely than not. Comparitively, SAO there is rather little development for the Harem fodder. "Oh he saved my pet, that means I love him, Oh we went and made a sword, I must marry him!" with only one episode to develop it left it feeling extremely superficial while Logs was developed over the entirety of the series.

I hated that stupid love triangle. Minori’s just a naive wanna Shiroe middle schooler who has no business getting in the way of his social life with his other friends. Akatsuki x Shiroe for life!

It’s not exactly a harem if you are referring to Akatsuki and Minori and Shiroe but rather just a love triangle. Though in contrast to SAO, the feelings the girls had to Shiroe are legit in their own way. Akatsuki considers Shiroe to be her retainer plus he is the only guy so far that sees her for what she is. For Minori, it’s more like a "student having a crush on her teacher" sort of thing. After all, he not only helped her and Tohya out from being held against their will by another guild, he helped her become a pretty damn good strategist.

I feel the biggest problem with Log Horizon is the amount of filler it has. The fact that I had to listen 12 minutes to William speak something that could be said in 2 minutes is pointless.

I really liked this videos, your arguments were solid and i liked your critique on both shows. If you keep this up, as well as improve a bit of your editing I think you could be on your way to becoming a big name in anime reviews 🙂

Uh Akatsuki is around the same age as Shiroe. She just LOOKS younger. Technically there is only one younger girl going for Shiroe’s affections and if the ending cinematic is anything to go by……….Yeah she doesn’t have a chance.

Great video and great analysis. When you said, "I imbued the series with more intelligence than it really deserved," that rang so true to me.
