In my oppinion the anime was a little disappointing because people set my expectations too high. The film "end of evangelion" on the other hand was one of the craziest experiences I’ve ever had and is probably my favourite anime film at the moment.

This "Third Children" stuff is really just Japanese trying their best to speak English, dont think to much about it 😀 You will hear it throughout the entire series. It’s really just "Third Child". But don’t tell that to certain parts of the fandom, they will get very angry.
You are one of the first to notice the weird pacing. The cuts are intentionally way to fast or way to slow. A deliberate technice to make you feel uneasy and nervous, and to confuse the viewer, so you don’t really know what’s going on. The show makes an attempt to make you feel what Shinji feels and I think it works great.
Also yes, the first two episodes have great production value. It also helps that Anno is a massive sucker for massive machinery and military hardware as well as a very good director. The shot composition and framing is fantastic.

I can already tell dude’s gonna have a really hard time understanding the story and empathizing with the characters. You should probably drop this.
