This show is an amazing deconstruction of mecha and more anime as a whole, it questions what if piloting a giant robot was actually terrible and mentally scaring, what if the scientist father was actually a huge asshole who is emotionally manipulative off his son, plus i don’t know if you’re interested in this but the film making aspect like the shot composition, the editing, and the story boarding are really amazing, definitely one of the greatest anime of all time.

So, we have our hero, a whiny angsty teen(?) with daddy issues. We have little miss bluehair who is more concerned about her car than the attacking Kaiju. We have blondie who has no respect for others (changing in the elevator, getting all up in little miss bluehair’s personal space). We have daddy-san who is focused and distant, probably unable to make personal connections. We have antagonists called ‘Angels’ which is either an interesting translation factoid or a way to get under westerners skins. Standard anime stuff. (Can you tell I never developed a taste for Japanimation? Speed Racer ruined me back in the 60s. I DO adore "One Punch Man" but that’s because it enjoys turning anime and manga tropes on their heads) Sorry, I voted for Rick and Morty three times. Looks like I’m not the only one.

Was hoping Evangelion would win. It’s a short show, just one season. This series is a deconstruction and it’s great.

You’re in for a trip. Beware of spoilers and be mindful Evangelion can be a bit hard to.. digest. 🙂
Edit: the subs for this series in particular tend to be better than the dubs.

    Thank you for the video.
If you decide to see this show, I recommend watching it with japanese audio. Other series in the 90s definitely suffered from worse dubs, but the original voice acting is in a league of its own.
Other than that, simply enjoy it as raw as possible. We’ll welcome you after your journey beyond the End of Evangelion and share the theories with you the community has created for more than 20 years.
