DRAGON QUEST BUILDERS 2 REVIEW – Happy Console Gamer
Dragon Quest Builders 2 review is an action role-playing sandbox game developed by Omega Force and Square Enix, with the latter publishing it for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. It is the sequel to Dragon Quest Builders, and was released in Japan in December 2018, and will be released worldwide in July 2019.
Dragon Quest Builders 2 features the ability for players to find materials and use them to construct buildings and other equipment. New features not found in the previous game include the ability to fly and travel underwater, as well as a fast-travel function based on a retro-style map. Unlike the first Dragon Quest Builders, the game allows for up to four players to play together cooperatively.

This game is a true addiction. This game also does one of the things that the best simulation games do. I love how as you play the game and build stuff the AI of the towns people scale with you. Basically, as you build a place up you don’t have to micromanage in the way you needed to, to get there in the first place.
As the complexity of your town grows and you level it up, the AI will take on more and more complex jobs which they give you instruction (in a story mode way) how to set things up for the automation. Eventually, you’ll have folks doing all kinds of jobs as you set up the cycle of produce and food production, for instance. This keeps the whole “player choice” of time management in place so that towns don’t get too overwhelming that you feel you can’t just go out an adventure anymore. They really want you to still be able to do that anytime, so as the place gets more to manage, you get help in that regards to give you that potential free time.
What’s kind of a nice touch is how various characters will stay in character as their job roles increase. A definite point goes to the localization team for covering all that.

You guys are the best.

Great Review! One thing I think would have gave the game even more reason to explore the huge open maps was if the puzzles for mini medals were removed and instead we had to craft a mini medal detector and then we could use it to explore the lands and look for mini medals buried underground. I think that would have been cool!

August 9, 2019 @ 11:58 am

August 9, 2019 @ 11:59 am
Kim is wearing Slime Earrings and all I am thinking about is how her stats have increased.
August 9, 2019 @ 12:01 pm
More Kim please
August 9, 2019 @ 12:02 pm
Your daughter is so sweet
August 9, 2019 @ 12:03 pm
Too satanic Johnny.

As much as I love this game I don’t agree that this game is much bigger land wise, I think it being islands now means it’s actually smaller in terms of land.
It’s a huge improvement though

I got an ad for dragon quest builder while watching the video for this haha. I was waiting for your review on this and didn’t releaize you posted it already.
August 9, 2019 @ 12:04 pm
This game need cross-save between Ps4 and Switch
August 9, 2019 @ 12:08 pm
Hilariously enough I got an ad for DQB2 before the video. On another note I have been LOVING this game so far, I’m on the third island
August 9, 2019 @ 12:09 pm
Wait, did you say focus more on the building aspect??? I’m definitely getting it ?
August 9, 2019 @ 12:09 pm

August 9, 2019 @ 12:10 pm
Been playing the first one on vita and really want to get this once the new switch model comes out
August 9, 2019 @ 12:10 pm
You make an awesome couple. Gamers for life. I want to buy this game, but also I want to play other games.
August 9, 2019 @ 12:10 pm
The one thing I don’t like about the new game is the building and destroying mechanics… the buttons are changed and made more difficult in my opinion.
August 9, 2019 @ 12:13 pm
I played some of the Demo have a hard time playing because you have to read for the story. No voice dialogue.
August 9, 2019 @ 12:15 pm
No way, I won’t leave my house, brilliant
August 9, 2019 @ 12:17 pm
ok, you guys got me so pumped for this. I am a HUGE dragon quest fan. I even got a large slime tattoo on my leg and going to just fill up a lot of DQ monsters around the slime! I love how kim is so excited.
August 9, 2019 @ 12:20 pm
I’ve never seen any of your videos before, but it warms my heart to see a couple happily be able to talk about games so openly and passionately. I’m sure I’ll be enjoying this game for months to come, and am really hopeful that this game will Iron out some of the creases that the first one had. The building in that one felt too imprecise, I’m sure first person mode will help out in that area here.
August 9, 2019 @ 12:21 pm
getting for switch asap … can’t stop playing mm2.. great review !
August 9, 2019 @ 12:22 pm
when does the multiplayer unlock ?
August 9, 2019 @ 12:22 pm
I wish they would have touched on the multiplayer some more. I’ve heard it’s limited.
August 9, 2019 @ 12:23 pm
what I wonder, why is it a 9 and not a 10? didnt hear you guys say a single negative thing about the game
August 9, 2019 @ 12:27 pm
I like that thumbnail lol
August 9, 2019 @ 12:28 pm
You guys are awesome. Love your channel. One of the best Canadian channels.
August 9, 2019 @ 12:28 pm
I barley beat the Furrowfield Island chapter in like 7 to 8 hours and that in itself felt like a complete campaign.
August 9, 2019 @ 12:28 pm
Love the game so far. The only thing that I hate is how much useless talking there is. I feel like im playing heavily story focused RPG, which IMO doesnt fit DQB. I prefered the first one when it comes to that.
August 9, 2019 @ 12:30 pm
I love how positive you guys are! It’s infectious, and I always leave your videos in a good mood. Thanks and keep up the great work!
August 9, 2019 @ 12:31 pm
dqb gets a 9/10 (only because now I have played dqb2.) DQB2 gets a 10/10. It is the first game that I have ever played that has a glaring negative (the text speed on the disembodied voice) and it didn’t take ANYTHING away from the game. I love it. Still playing it…
August 9, 2019 @ 12:31 pm
ROFLOLMFAO it MINECRAFT?!!! =_=
August 9, 2019 @ 12:31 pm
I’ve spent 17 hours on the first story island
August 9, 2019 @ 12:32 pm
Never played this game or any DQ games. This looks great as well as terrifying.
August 9, 2019 @ 12:34 pm
Dark Cloud did it first
August 9, 2019 @ 12:35 pm
How’s about a review of Blazing Chrome just released on PS4 it’s awesome just like Contra?
August 9, 2019 @ 12:36 pm
Not to be off topic, as I already bought this and love it. Got it on switch. What I want to know is how did you meet a woman into games like you are. I was with my hs sweetheart who was into ps1 jrpgs but then went full crazy and got into hard drugs. Fast forward from the 90s to now, I am coming out of a 9 year marriage into divorce and my ex hated video games, and cleaning and doing anything besides drinking, screwing and eating. I’m 40, not much younger, where are the gaming girls at (that aren’t feminazis or e-thots into showing off cleavage for cash), I would love to know. As I don’t ever see them anywhere. How did you two meet? or did you two meet from being a youtube personality?
August 9, 2019 @ 12:36 pm
My husband and I are huge fans and I love seeing Kim in your videos. Couples who game together stay together! I absolutely love the matching outfits as well.
August 9, 2019 @ 12:36 pm
Help please. Im in Furrowfield and they tell me to ring the bell to level up the village and I do and they still just say ring the bell. I cannot progress at all in the game.
August 9, 2019 @ 12:38 pm
Adding this to the pile of games that is gonna give my Switch so much love this summer.
Loved the first game, can’t wait to finally start on this one.
August 9, 2019 @ 12:40 pm
I like DQ Builders 2 because I like Minecraft and Dark Cloud, but since I’m not so keen on Dragon Quest, I end up skipping most all the dialogue because it never seems like the way anyone would talk in real life, only children’s shows or games. And I like in Builders 2 that they still show your instructions after the dialogue so I’m not completely lost if I skipped the dialogue, unlike Builders 1.
August 9, 2019 @ 12:42 pm
I’m playing it on switch and loving it
August 9, 2019 @ 12:43 pm
I recently started My time in Portia, this peaks my interest. are they similar? I never got into Minecraft, was not for me. but I like the idea of building a RPG or questing around this game
August 9, 2019 @ 12:44 pm
You are very lucky Johnny, same with you Kim, you two are YouTube’s and the internets best husband and wife couple ❤️?? it’s so nice to see a couple destroying these games together I’ll admit I’m a little jealous but in a good way of course! I gotta find my gamer girl and settle down ??
August 9, 2019 @ 12:45 pm
What about the save, i heard someone got an issue with the autosave, and when i heard that it makes me halt to buy this game. Insight plz
August 9, 2019 @ 12:45 pm
