I really enjoyed the show first time watching It and the dub was great didn’t sound bad at all. And i could tell that shinji was having confused thoughts without the guy stating he deserves love

That’s the problems u have in US ?? U have no idea what they have done here in italy. They change the name of the Angles in Apostols, the Eva 01 is called First Unit, and the general quality of the translation is orrbile.. it sound like it was done by a 12 yh. Sentntence that’s no make any sense, totaly out of contest or just sound weird, with words people does not use from centuries.

Netflix already had to shell out a ton to distribute Eva. They weren’t about to spend even more for the original dub, if they could even acquire it, and the insanely priced rights to a single song. Like most international distributors and licensors of anime they probably had their own go-tos for VA. I don’t remember pitchforks coming out when funimation didn’t bring back every original VA from FMA for brotherhood. Reading through most of these comments is like watching a horde of nerds crawling out of the basement while pushing glasses up their nose to cacophonous chants of "umm, actually".

Hans line in empire strikes back: "I know", is exactly what the translator was talking about though…
He doesn’t say outright that he loves her, but it’s heavily implied up to this moment.

clearly the "redub" is just yet ANOTHER time line created at the end of eva, just like the games, manga and rebuild series, the show never ended, we just get to see the shitty realitys shinji made by refusing to fuckin become tang

These are all very small things. Stop nitpicking. This series was not easy to access until now. I am glad that this series is finally available to a new generation of viewers.

Im without Netflix for two months now. The Office is a great comedy series, i will watch Married with Children next.
I own Evangelion blurays and DVDs with at least 6 options of subs, so i have no reason to be pissed…

More annoyed at no "Fly me to the Moon" than the change to "like" instead of "love". Shinji "likes" Asuka and we still have him pumping out mayo in the hospital to her so "like" can go a very long way in this series.

Meh, the subtext is the same. He’s even holding Shinji’s hand so I think it’s pretty apparent he doesn’t just mean he likes him as a friend. Kind of a minor thing to yet your undies in a bunch over.

What the translator said about interpretation isn’t wrong, but you can still interpret their "love" as sexual or just the great bond between friends. My issue with it is that "I like you" is just less impactful and meaningful than love. Regardless of how you wish to interpret it you have weakened the strength of their connection.

I think that the scene between kaworu and shinji is more than a simple "romantic" scene. Kaworu makes shinji feel loved which is what he desires from people like his father. Feeling loved gives him a sense of self worth? So that’s what makes Kaworu so important to him. Without that *vital piece of information*, many of shinji’s actions and emotions later on lose their meaning. Idk.
