Dragon Quest XI S: Definitive Edition: The Kotaku Review (S)
Dragon Quest XI S: Definitive Edition: The Kotaku Review (S)
I (Tim Rogers) supplement my 2018 video review of the 2017 game Dragon Quest XI with this in-depth look at its 2019 “definitive” edition for the Nintendo Switch. In summary, this is the best way to experience Dragon Quest XI.
Wow, the developers of Dragon Quest must believe that the “definition” of Dragon Quest is portability! (That’s a joke about the resolution)

WAIT, PEOPLE HATED THE MUSIC IN DRAGON QUEST XI? WHAT?!?!?! O.O I LOVED THE SOUNDTRACK! IT WAS SO FUN.

I can’t stand Tim’s snarky ‘ironic’ commentaries. I have the feeling that nothing is meant sincerely, and I’m constantly on high alert for being pranked. The whole thing sounds like a teenager trying to be edgy. Come on Tim, you can be funny without sounding like you’re taking nothing seriously. Just be you.

Writing your review for Dragon Quest XI S: Definitive Edition to focus on the 2D mode in the interest of time and viewer interest as opposed to content, which had already been covered in the Kotaku review of Dragon Quest XI for PlayStation 4? Wow. That’s

tim: do you really speak 12 languages
good video as always, appreciate all the effort you put into them.
sadly, i did not enjoy my time with the original dq11 on ps4. yes i finished it because i hate myself. i dont know why i didnt like it. i loved 5 and 8. i honestly think the music had a lot to do with it. but all the new stuff, including the symphonic tracks and faster battles, might make me want to try it again

I’m playing it right now (taking a break to eat) it’s not only becoming one of my favorite Dragon quest game (putting it up against 5,7,and 9) its slowly becoming my favorite game of all time. I plan on playing it completely in 3D for the 1st playthrough and completely in 2D the second playthrough.

There’s a video called "Why the Music in Dragon Quest XI is So Terrible | Past Mortem [SSFF]" that goes into a lot of detail of the music, and the 88-year old (that’s almost 90 years!) composer of the music. Along with his world views, that definitely feel like what you’d expect from an 88-year old.

When it comes to the music, I don’t really care about the orchestra vs. midi music. My problem was how redundant it is. That overworld theme is WAAAAY overplayed and loops too quickly. They should have had different music for different regions.

I’m not even pissed the Switch version has more content. Jealous, perhaps. I’ve played this game going on 900 hours across 4 playthroughs and I still love it. My favorite game ever also cementing The DQ series as my favorite RPG series of all time.

32:18 Having 100% DQ 11, I can confirm I dislike myself.
Already put in 40 hours into the casino in the Switch version to do it again, so I guess I can confirm I hate myself too.

I chuckled more than once in this "review". It’s amazing. The composer still sucks for not letting us have actual orchestral. Greedy bastard.

If it is any consolation, I liked your original Dragon Quest XI review so much, I watched it 4 or 5 times and at least once with that time’s girld friend, who doesn’t even play video games. Edit: For the people upstairs: It’s also the video that made me follow your videos on Kotaku and check back periodically.
