Sweet! I skipped on the subpar PS4 version.

Excited to play this on Switch now.

I played the demo but it didn’t saved the progress, does anyone know why that would be?

Loved how you even covered the brightness/contrast/bgm volume stuff. I’m really picky with little things like that and no other review or video ever touches on them things.

got the original on pc, installed the orchestral soundtrack mod and it was a good experience, but apparently my pc isn’t good enough for this game….somehow. The game ran just fine, but at certain cutscenes it would crash. So I’m getting the switch version. Also faster battle speed is one of the best things invented.

The game still looks great despite the weaker hardware and I love that. I like it when companies don’t try and force the game to work past the consoles capabilities and make setbacks to make sure it actually runs well. Granted you get a worse looking game but it’s just graphics.

the sad fact that this game looks way better than pokémon sword & shield probably ever will

The story so far is great but the game play is awful. Not organized enough for me and the battle system is too easy or not well explained. Why is my only option fight or to tell my team mate to fight more wise etc. That’s it? Smh. I cant cast spells or tell my crew to do anything else but flee.

Can’t wait for the release of this game. Beat the demo in 3 days and sunked 8 hours in it. I loved every second of it.

First DQ game and was originally hyped for Hero in smash so I learned about his default skin the 11 version so I can’t really describe how much I will enjoy DQXIS!

Great review man. I just have a quick question for those that have played and beat the game, so spoilers are below

    SPOILERS

I was just wondering how far I am in the game. I am in act 2 and I have all my party members and I just beat tatsunaga in hotto. I still need to collect materials to forge the sword of light and I just entered Gallopolis to do so. Thanks!

I’ve resigned myself to make do with this port, but I feel positively fucked over by this being a Switch exclusive. Seeing that DQ has had trouble selling in the west, I felt pretty good playing it at release on PS4. To have so many features, especially those that SHOULD have been included in the first release, sold again, visually downgraded, at full price on a different console… I don’t know why this issue is being hand waved by almost everyone or being misconstrued as a console-war issue. The whole thing is blatantly corporate greed. Blatantly anti-consumerist. This is not a healthy direction that any game should have to take. We all deserve better treatment than this.

    Hmm…

My game crashed twice inside Miko’s house in Hotto and when spamming the Bear in Mt. Huji for nearly an hour for Tough Guy Tattoo.

Nothing else wrong. But now I have all the best items from the demo all +3 and at max level 20.

I’m just going through it again on Draconian Super Tough mode

I have only played the demo in hand held mode and I must say Besides that the gras looks a bit blurry and charachters dont like as sharp as in ps4, i must admit that Im impressed over the visuals in The game.

The Definitive Edition of DQ11 is my first time with the game (and franchise) and I’m quickly understanding why DQ is revered as “The Grandfather of JRPGs”

I’m 22-23 hrs into the demo. It took 12 hrs to get to the demo end but I’m not ready to save and wait for the game to come out. I’m leveling up and saving gold. There’s nothing left for me to do. I can’t wait for the release of the full game. It’s fantastic. Nice video. Nicely done. I wish Yonder was created like DQ. I need a tutorial video for that game…

Does anyone know if you can customize your character in this game? I’ve been a fan of dragon quest and I know you can in the older games but I’m curious if you can in this one.

I bought the PS4 version and I still I haven’t play it. I’m seriously thinking getting rid of that version and buying this one, I want to play the definitive version because I KNOW I don’t play twice games this long, because I’m a grow up and I don’t have the time and I have to many games without finish them.

This one’s a bit of a sleeper hit for me which I’m happy about. A lot of JRPGs can be hit or miss for me (whether the reason be combat, art style, story blah blah) so while I do like to dig in during sales I don’t usually pay too much attention to many of them. That being said the demo for this one was a lot of fun and sold me on buying it pretty quick, I’m looking forward to grabbing it day one and I’m glad I didn’t know much about it for long because I probably would’ve pulled all my hair out waiting.

[Spoilers & Unpopular Opinions Ahead] All of the S release features should have been in the original release of the game. Makes that $60 I spent hurt a bit for an incomplete game. A lot of long running franchises grow and evolve, while Dragon Quest feels as though it’s stuck in time– the midi music doesn’t help, especially after the first few moments of nostalgia wears off. DQ11 feels stagnant with its game play mechanics, and while they might have flown back "in the day", you feel the battles really drag. FF has done a great job of bringing turn based fighting into present day, making your time feel well spent and the battles engaging and exciting. The auto-pilot fighting option is indicative of this.

The story was engaging but unnecessarily brutal for the obvious sake of giving the time travel more impact, like a cooling balm has on a burning blister. It makes the story crafting feel cheap, despite the characters and world being great… with the exception of the silent, dead-eyed protagonist. I understand the value of having the hero silent (I think I’d die if they made Link talk), but there’s a difference between a dead fish and a vessel for your imagination. The protagonist is an obvious black hole where the rest of the cast is fantastic, and this is something that I hadn’t felt about the DQ main heroes until this installment. In addition, the crude sex humor and rehashing of the same exact jokes from the series is also something that I wish they would evolve out of.

Resting on their laurels and just a scant more. While I’ve enjoyed the series in the past, I wish I would have seen more honest reviews of the game b/c I wouldn’t have bought it know what I know now. I think nostalgia carries most of the game, because while there are things I thought were great, I sincerely believe it doesn’t deserve the absolute adulation people give it.

I haven’t played a DQ game since nes and snes days using emulation. So this was my first taste of a modern DQ. I don’t have a playstation so this demo was a fantastic way to convince me to buy it. Spending about 9 hours in the game getting to know the characters and the world really drew me in and I cannot wait to pick up the full version and save that floating tree!

I played Dragon Quest 9 on the DS, I didn’t really like it. I played Dragon Quest 8, used to like it on my first playthrough on 3DS, not so much nowadays. I really don’t know if I’ll like this game, long story short, I didn’t grow up with the series nor did I find it as amazing as most RPG fans do. I guess I just have different taste in Jrpgs.

4:00 IDK if anyone else already pointed this out but basically certain songs have no orchestrated equivalent, that is they’ve never been performed on the Symphonic Suite CDs. When putting together the OST for this version they took pre-existing recordings, and so a handful of songs were unable to be changed. Kinda disappointing, but that’s why.

I’m playing the demo and it’s good, but idk if I should buy this when it comes out or just get the ps4 version. Though I’m not like a huge visuals guy, I’m not sure whether or not I want to see it in it’s full ps4 glory. And I also dont know how much story content is being added and if its worth it.
