It’s bullshit the extra content didn’t come to the PS4 version. I don’t want to have to buy the game again just to experience the extra content when they can just release an upgrade DLC to the PS4 version or free update.

The extra content should be proposed as DLC on PS4…. I liked the game but I won’t buy the extra part at full price …

Everyone I’ve showed this game to points out how god awful the voice acting is and after they mentioned it it was so apparent I can’t finish the game. I literally got confused and irritated thinking about the choices that had to have been made for the mermaid to sound like that. The first character you meet is one of the worst examples. I want to love this game the way I loved Dragon Quest 8 but this games dialog is egregious. It makes me sad.

[Spoilers & Unpopular Opinions Ahead] All of the S release features should have been in the original release of the game. Makes that $60 I spent hurt a bit for an incomplete game. A lot of long running franchises grow and evolve, while Dragon Quest feels as though it’s stuck in time– the midi music doesn’t help, especially after the first few moments of nostalgia wears off. DQ11 feels stagnant with its game play mechanics, and while they might have flown back "in the day", you feel the battles really drag. FF has done a great job of bringing turn based fighting into present day, making your time feel well spent and the battles engaging and exciting. The auto-pilot fighting option is indicative of this.
The story was engaging but unnecessarily brutal for the obvious sake of giving the time travel more impact, like a cooling balm has on a burning blister. It makes the story crafting feel cheap, despite the characters and world being great… with the exception of the silent, dead-eyed protagonist. I understand the value of having the hero silent (I think I’d die if they made Link talk), but there’s a difference between a dead fish and a vessel for your imagination. The protagonist is an obvious black hole where the rest of the cast is fantastic, and this is something that I hadn’t felt about the DQ main heroes until this installment. In addition, the crude sex humor and rehashing of the same exact jokes from the series is also something that I wish they would evolve out of.
Resting on their laurels and just a scant more. While I’ve enjoyed the series in the past, I wish I would have seen more honest reviews of the game b/c I wouldn’t have bought it know what I know now. I think nostalgia carries most of the game, because while there are things I thought were great, I sincerely believe it doesn’t deserve the absolute adulation people give it.

I played the demo and Erik said you can’t just plonk the fun-sized forge anywhere. Maybe they forgot to change that conversation.

I really enjoyed the PS4 version. A beautiful game and a great representative of the franchise and JRPGs. It isn’t a perfect game and I had some story critiques. But I’d fully recommend it to anyone. Will I run out and get the Switch version? Not sure. I’m pretty happy with the experience I had on the PS4. But for a version that does add some nice touches, I’ll likely pick it up someday.

The only complaint I had about DQ 11 was the requirement to complete the horse race to get through the 3rd Act. I can’t use my left hand, so I play RPGs because they don’t require real life dexterity. I managed to get through the simple one during the main story, but going back at the end was physically impossible for me.

Now see, if Nintendo had ACTUALLY explained what was changed from the previous version of the game, I might have considered buying it. But since they didn’t, I’ll keep going on my PS4 version.

I wish the 2D version can be downloaded as a separate software. So I can have a digital version at all time in my switch. I wish every JRPG had a 2D version it’s so convenient when the world is smaller but the story and character stay huge and charming. Also all JRPG should have a no encounter, fast pace and overpower like the Final Fantasy port for replayability. Life is so short.

Should there be a Dragon Quest coming up as this is a remake/rerelease? When the graphics get upscaled for switch pro or next gen it’s going to look amazing.

I bought it on PS4 with every intention to play it. But I also havent turned on my PS4 since the weekend Spider-man came out. I started the Demo on Switch and really enjoyed it. Then I bought Links Awakening and got side tracked. Once I finish that, I think Im going to get into DQ. It looks like so much fun and Ive been itching for a turn based rpg thats not Pokemon for a while hah

You should have mentioned that there is a free demo that lets you play the first 10 hours of the game. Then lets you pick up where you left off in the full version. There’s literally no reason not to try.

Is there any news about the S content being available in the PS4 version via paid DLC or something?
You know, so I don’t have to buy the same game twice. I mean, Dragon Quest deserves it but still.

Good game. Played them all. Don’t really get it when folks say it made them emotional but these youngins tear up pretty easily. Try it out, you might like it. Turn based is nice imo.

Loving it on the pc atm, but will buy it for the Switch too. Great game! I don’t get why JRPG’s need to be real time action based games, when i buy a JRPG i want the JRPG formula. This game gives me exactly that! I love the turn based battles.

I already bought and beat the game a year ago. Im glad it’s on the switch but the additions that are exclusive to the switch makes me feel like the first release of the game is now a watered down version but not so substantial enough to rebuy this game jjust for that. Square sorta did this to a much lesser degree with nier automata goty edition. Starting to wonder if we should hold off on buying square games till the definitive editions. To anyone who hasn’t played 11 yet, if you own a switch and a ps4 just buy it on switch. Great game.
