Sep 4th baby I got the 150 dollar edition! I will be playing this non stop till Sep 7th when Marvel Spider-Man comes then I will be losing my mind swapping back and fourth between the 2. So do you think we will get voice acting on the American PS4?

Great review. Excited to get this! Kinda sucks the ps4 doesnt get the 3ds features though. I remember watching my brother play Dragon Warrior on the nes. As it used to be called that in the us. It would have been awesome to see the retro graphics on the ps4.

For the earlier Dragon Quest games, its because not as many people played them. And while I love Dragon Quest 4, its not as good as 8 on the overall. Same with 6, and 7. 7 is amazing but holy hell its so tedious at times. Dragon Quest IX is utter garbage. The combat is alright but that story is some of the worst schlock I have ever encountered and its extreme over-reliance on bad jokes and puns kills any sort of tension or drama the story tries to build. Not to mention not only a literal exposition fairy, but a literal exposition fairy who is the most annoying character ever.
And while I respect your opinion and do think XI is a great game, its not the greatest RPG on the PS4. That’s Persona 5.

Watched the whole video, liked and subscribed. Got a few unawnsered questions that I was hoping this video would awnser.
You said that there is no monster arena and also that there is a monster riding feature. Is there any monster collecting/beastiary feature? I’ve been dying for a Dragon Quest Joker 3 localization.
How many playable characters are there and how customizable are your party options?

I’ve played Dragon Quest since the Dragon Warrior days on NES!
For some reason this release doesn’t seem to excite me too much, perhaps because I was hoping to get both versions of the game not just the PS4 one. That said, this review has somewhat rekindled my excitement. The game does look a lot like VIII, and it will probably be just as epic if not more. The soundtrack does sound weaker than the previous ones though, and the melodies seem a little bit recycled, but as you point out, maybe due to Sugiyama’s age, he’s sticking with what he has mastered.
Hearing that this game somewhat has ties to the earlier games intrigues me a lot, since the original trilogy was amazing, with re-telling/living the legend of Loto (Erdrick!).
I’m still hopeful that Nintendo eventually publishes the 3DS version, just as they helped with the DS and 3DS remakes, as they have been insistent on supporting the 3DS this late into its lifecycle.
Cool review, good work!

What made DQ8 the best was it’s storyline and immersion of the first-person perspective. While everyone was stuck doing third person, DQ8 gave you the option of both. Does this have first person at all? It’s about the single feature that will make or break me from buying this game.

When you refer to Dragon Quest 3 and 4 are you talking about Dragon Warrior 3 and 4 on NES? My first NES game was Dragon Warrior and when I got Dragon Warrior 2 I went nuts with that, then I got 3 and then 4 and OMG I played through each of those a few times each.

It blows my mind that they can do dragon quest games like these but not a fucking Chrono Trigger remake.

Man. The alchemy pot would’ve been nice add-on. Anyways hope there’s something similar and even better but anyways I’m glad there’s no class system! Keep it simple. There’s already enough of a challenge

I love DQ monsters series more. When I see the monsters in this game it pain to see that I cannot use them in battles. I just never like the silent lead characters.

Knowing you seem to love DQX, do you count that when you say best rpg on the platform(s) or is it just that MMORPG and RPG aren’t comparable? I’ll have the chance to play this one soon, probably never DQX, though. /cry
