Hey i just watched it and i must say i am dissapointed. The characters/your "team" cant be customised like in dragon questý IX/9. It is way TOO easy’ fragon quest IXs Monsters just charged at you if they saw you to engage in battle like any monster would do/almost. But these one just straight up IGNORE YOU. The story is way worse that dragons quests IXs story. The Golden train is gone. Are there even Dungeons? Because if not then that enough is a dealbreaker. Dragon Quest IX was really amazing and I have over 180 hours in it. It is a DIAMOND. But this one just depends on the titel mechanic style and overall past. It is dissapointing to see how much they turned to graphics instead of ACTUAL writing. I must say the graphic are AMAZING but if the content cant remind me of that old feel nostalgia like dragon quest IX STILL TO THIS DAY DOES. Then i wont buy it. I am truly sorry to say this as a fan of the series but if you see the bullshit then you have to call it out. What i find good in these game are the following: Graphics, …the new thing where you can ride on the monsters and that … and yeah that is pretty much it. And here are the bad things:The Skilltree(alltogether)is pretty bad/classes are gone wich was the worst decision ever made,No character customisation,no dungeons, the camera switch is BAD because the first time i saw footage of this game was with it on and i immediately vomited after seing the beauty that has become an abomination/first impressions but also because im never going to use it (it distracts from ACTUAL STRATEGY)but only if it is visual and has not anything to do with the gameplay,as Boomstick said/so i have heard you just have to go around and collect stupid orbs like mate do that yourself. In dragon quest IX there were loads of people towns side quests important characters that would help you and your team grow as you go on on your adventure. Now if I think about it Dragon Quest IX IS the DEFINITION of ADVENTURE!!! IF you really can choose writing over story then PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE buy Dragon Quest IX it was and still is a really amazing game.

I didn’t realize the temperature of the fun-sized forge actually did anything. D’oh!

Great review as always. I thoroughly enjoy how you review for the those who care about "how does this game play?" rather than just "what is this game?" I’ve purchased a lot of games I wouldn’t have otherwise considered from your videos, and have also avoided purchasing ones I certainly would have regretted too due to reviews like this. Keep it up!

maybe the rpg crowd just knows what’s up at this point. I feel after P5 it’s hard to compare difficulties. Still think p5 is prob the best jrpg in recent years.

You didn’t mention any of the Draconian options to up the difficulty if one should choose to do so.

Does the music play nonstop? I find it really annoying. Yes it’s great at first but it gets really annoying a few hours later, especially if it’s so fucking loud

I never played any of these and I think this might be my first! I love JRPGs! Thanks for the review!

I know it’s an old game, but Resonance of Fate Remaster next review?

Also, maybe you should take a look at Trails of Cold Steel series & Trails in The Sky series, great TBS tactic rpg that I think is a much better combat system than DQ XI or some other FF games.

Apparently Trails of Cold Steel 1 & 2 about to be release on PS4 (already on PC, PS3, PSP).

If any veteran RPG players are getting this game, I highly recommend turning on the "Stronger Monsters" and "No EXP from weak monsters" options at the beginning of the game. While it doesn’t make the monsters more aggressive it does make the battles difficult. On many occasions I was wiped out and had to better strategize what I would do during regular battles, and what skills to give my party outside of battle. So now that the regular battles were a greater threat I was more afraid of the encounters on the overworld. Though I would not want to avoid the regular monsters as the bosses would destroy me in a handful of turns if I skipped them. Not to mention that because of the "No EXP from weak monster" option, once you get at certain level, the enemies stop giving EXP, so you cannot just overlevel to defeat a boss, you really have to think about you moves during a boss fight. These two settings alone have lead me to think of every possible mechanic offered in the game, and has greatly raised my enjoyment of this entry. Highly recommended.

Someone has spent some time running back to boss rooms in the Souls franchise.

Great work, as usual. Game looks good and sounds casual enough for me to pick it up some day. Sorry it wasn’t more challenging for you.

While I agree that the enemies are not aggressive in that they don’t charge you, and you can sprint around them if you choose, I wouldn’t necessarily say that makes the game easy. If you’re skipping too many battles on your way to the bosses, you’re going to get your ass handed to you, especially if you’re playing with the Draconian modifiers on. Not only is the game already harder with the modifiers on, but by skipping too many battles, a) you’re not levelling up your characters properly (leaving many gaps in their attributes and skill trees), b) you’ll have far less money, and c) you may not have access to very good equipment (since levelling up helps you with your forging, and the difficulty increases with better equipment). Many of the bosses have 3-4 attacks in a row, so you would definitely be dead if you weren’t fighting anything along the way.

So the "real time" combat isn’t actually "real time". Nice to know. I don’t think I’ve seen any other review mention that.

So they basically made this game more accessible to people who would’ve otherwised not purchased it at all.
I do appreciate JRPGs that require some grinding and difficulty in battle, but sometimes it’s good to not stress so much about things like that and have a more casual, enjoyable experience.
Now if they can just do a PS4 release of Dragon Quest 1 ~ 10 on disc….

This kind of game was never meant for people that want the hardest games imaginable. That is where you action games come in. Are there difficult RPGs? Sure but its all usually based on how much you grind. If you want a challenge in these games, don’t over level. Just play. I prefer the opposite. I like feeling like a super hero that can’t be beat. The difficulty of an RPG is entirely based on how much the person grinds for levels. Its a choice. Comparing this game to a game like Dark Souls, which I think this reviewer was kind of doing, is night and day. Two completely different styles of game. I don’t count Dark Souls as an RPG. Its an action game with RPG elements.

*There are Draconian modifiers to make the game harder but this does not fix my issue with non aggressive/ entirely avoidable enemies.*
Dragon Quest 11 was one of my most anticipated games of the year and I love the RPG genre but I just really wished they could patch in better AI on the enemies to make them more threatening and faster.
We see again a similar issue I had with Ni No Kuni 2 earlier this year where it had some pretty cool systems that were entirely undermined my its general overall easiness. What do you guys think? Does lacking challenge nearly ruin RPGs for you like it does for me? -Deadite
