I watched it so that I could watch your review after.

Am I right in thinking that the movie sequence is wrong (internally inconsistent)?

Light writes L’s assistant L’s name in the Note (at about 56 minutes), keeping in mind only ONE name can be on the page if it is to be burned, cancelling the death (Light plans to do this). The assistant’s disappearance triggers L show up at Light’s house, during the confrontation, she goes up to his room & takes the page with L’s assistant out & smuggles the Note out in her bag & the page out in her algebra book – after she has the page she gives Light the book back (in her locker at the dance), but she has since written the FBI agents’ names down on the page (we see L find the page with the names in the algebra book at the very end of the movie) – but they’ve already done the mass suicide thing (46 minutes), and I she’s written them in the book before, Light would have seen them AND he wouldn’t have written the assistant’s name on that page knowing only one name could be removed/burned.

Maybe I missed something but it seems like it’s broken.

Also, I get the feeling that this review is just an excuse for you to show everyone that you’re just a yung Willem Dafoe…

This entire movie just fell apart from the beginning. *sigh* They did a decent job on Ryuk, but other than that. They completely fucked it up… I LOVE the Anime, and I’m not even someone who likes Anime. X’D but I loved that anime.

I watched it last night and didn’t think it was terrible. The anime is definitely superior but I thought this version was okay. All it needed was the potato chip scene.

To me, Death Note was sorta interesting, probably because I can’t compare and contrast it with the anime version. But I will admit the ending didn’t make sense as he could’ve burned the page allowing the girl to live, then not just killing his girlfriend and if needed he could’ve easily gotten another name and hid from the cops for two more minutes since they didn’t entirely know where he was, they just know he was in the highschool. The girlfriend could’ve been better, like you said, she was way to whiney and unoriginal in a highschool drama, a depressed girl who wants something more. Light made more stupid decisions like showing the girl the book. It was pretty obvious she was bound to bend the rules yet still be in them, like her ripping the page to have it as her personal death note.

This was an off the cuff first review? I have seen less smooth reviews from people with review channels. Bad movie, yet you give solid reasons why it is bad instead of just mocking it. And whereas you struggled to find a few specific good things about the movie you leave it open for anyone who had some particular thing they liked about the movie to bring it up without feeling like they would be mocked.

I liked the movie, made me check out the anime. Liking the anime so far (ep 04 now), I like how weebs see themselves as anime Light but are more like Netflix Light.
I like how light is relatable, he’s a 16yo virgin who just lost his mom and apparently never even kissed a girl, the actor nailed the character that was given to him. If you don’t like the character, well, shame

Lamb Chop has some deep problems. He might need to see a Psychiatrist.
