I feel all right about the ending because during the fight they explained why Yuri is in a wheelchair and the scorpion at the end was a call back to how Nanbu was described as a scorpion.
But it did feel the ending was rushed.

Though it was a 50th anniversary for Ashita no Joe manga, I hope they bring another season back. Guess they just wanted this on a happy note. But I think they could done it different or at least made the last fight two episodes. Also Viz licensed the anime. Hope to see a dub soon!!

The actual fight between Yuri and Joe is not really the point of this anime. Joe achieved his goal in episode 11 when he beat Burroughs. All Joe wanted was to fight Yuri. Therefore, the outcome of the Yuri vs Joe fight is not really relevant.
I went into this anime expecting brawls the level of Ippo, but I found myself not really caring about the fights, but the characters and circumstances surrounding the fight. The Joe vs Burroughs fight was the most intense episode of 2018 anime for me. Not because of the fight, but because of all the surrounding circumstances.

the fight wasnt so much but i think the final is appropriate for the lore and dont think u understood the meaning of the anime that the author wanted to show

Ill give an 8/10 just because the ending could’ve been better and that fight with Mikio could’ve been improved upon. But other than that, great anime

Y’all do know in ashita no joe rikishi died before joe did right. Stop comparing. This one has a much lighter story, similar themes and characters. In Tomorrow’s Joe it’s about the entire struggle of a boxer and a whole lot more, this show is short af and is dystopian. Just deal with it right? It’s gonna be different. If you have the stomach for it watch the ultimate rebel become a fighter instead of a spin-off

The ending was perfect for a fan of boxing, the dis interest of the Shirato female in her own (companies) product, that was the ending itself. It showed that that the will to fight and the reasons why till this day we have fight sport . Its simple you loose or win its binary. There is something about the anime as a fight fan and a very amateur level student as well i can respect the concept of a plain and simple fight and not some technology based sport. It highlighted how the human desire to fight at its primal best. Also there is a reason why after the fight things seem all rosy and sweet. Its because no matter who you are after you have given it your all and weather you win or loose you either learn to respect your opponent, thats why the most bitter rivalries end in respect.

I think they showed the ending like this because it didn’t matter who won. Yuri and Joe both won because they got the fight they’ve always wanted.

To me the reason why they ended the anime on such a cliffhanger is because we all knew that the fight couldn’t and in such a style finish I quite enjoyed it because it shows that you really don’t need to actually see everything that’s happening but to embrace it as for what it is. But the fight between Joe and Yuri could not go on forever one Must Fall while the other must stand but in this case one must sit n the other must stand tall the show everybody that old fashioned boxing cannot die.

The whole point of the ending is to show you the outcome didn’t matter to either of them, it was the fight itself That meant so much to joe and yuri. It didn’t matter who won because they had found the 1 in a life time opponent and we’re having so much fun boxing each other.

This anime was weak, wanna watch real boxing anime, watch Ippo or Ashita no joe. They don’t even respect the weight classes in this new boxing era. 5 out of 10

How the fight ended wasn’t the point. It didn’t matter to either Joe or Yuri who won, all that mattered is that they had the fight. The climax wasn’t the fight. You missed two narrative climaxes earlier. The first was Joe vs Burroughs, which was in a more metaphorical sense Joe vs Junk Dog. It was Joe finally leaving behind his past of throwing fights, no matter what the risks are. This was all so he could have a real fight with Yuri. The next narrative climax was Yuri having his gear removed. It was Yuri realizing that no augmentation, no modification he could make would give him what he wanted. What he wanted was a real fight with Yuri. By this episode both characters had already hit the peaks of their character arcs and had achieved their goals, which was simply to have a real match against the other. All the show needed to show us is that they were enjoying their selves and having the time of their lives, which it did. Who did and didn’t win was unnecessary to show, because that didn’t matter to any of the characters at that point. It does give a little blurb about it for clarity’s sake, but the fight’s conclusion doesn’t need anything past that; because the fight wasn’t about the conclusion anymore. The fight itself was the conclusion that both characters had been looking forward to, and to call the ending disappointing is – I feel – demonstrating clear ignorance of or lack of investment in the motivations and characterizations of Joe and Yuri.

I really liked the way that they ended it! They didn’t show the end of the fight because that wasn’t the point. It wasn’t about winning or losing for Joe. It was about fighting yuri, about following your dreams. That was the perfect way to end it in my opinion, to show who won as an afterthought. Because who won never mattered, to either yuri or joe. They just wanted to fight each other

I personally liked the ending. I expected it to bw cut short due to budgeting and what not. That being said heres my soapbox.
At the end of the day, joe nor yuri couldnt give 2 shits less who won or lost. They were looking for that 1 special opponent or dance partner. Quite frankly, I dont think the spectators, deep down, cared who won or lost either. We donr wanna see Joe stayin the hands of a corrupt mafia boss. This ending was wholesome. It really showed the development between Joe, yuri, the old man, and sachios bond between one another, and it did that very well.
