Weird how Fist of the North Star or Jojo’s Bizzare Adventures isn’t part of this. FOTNS basically popularised the old anime of bulky men and strong main characters. It heavily inspired the first part of Jojo Part 1 and the later parts. And Jojo inspired countless animes with it’s whacky story telling and powers. Fist of the North Star inspired DRAGON BALL Z in some stages. I’m not much of a fan of FOTNS but you can’t disagree that it should be at least in the top 5. It literally inspired countless action animes.

If Sailor Moon is on here for popularizing the magical girl genre, then Fist of the North Star should be on here for popularizing action shonen. Otherwise we probably wouldn’t of gotten Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Jojo, MHA, even DBZ and among many others. Could also argue for Akira to be on here too

    Space BattleShip Yamato

Credited with spearheading the space opera genre in the United States. Cited as a major source of inspiration by both Gene Roddenberry and George Lucas… Nope not influential; nothing to see here guys!

I’m sorry but astro boy and Akira cannot be higher than dragon ball, both of those are influential in their own right but I don’t think you quite understand how many people have been impacted by dragon ball it is literally the grandfather of Shonen anime and 90% of all kids into anime used to watch it on tv, it literally shaped the anime community and so many authors of critically acclaimed anime/Manga to this day say that say ball was their inspiration

I get it. YouTubers hate comments that defile their content with personal opinions by writing that their opinions are better or because their favorite anime didn’t make it to the list.

However, it doesn’t hurt to get the facts right. ‘Ghost in the Shell’ inspired ‘The Matrix’ not ‘Dragon Ball’ and the book ‘Ghost in the Machine’ inspired ‘Ghost in the Shell’ not ‘Astro Boy’.
Also, it’s fair that ‘Paprika’ made it to the list not because it’s my favorite (my favorite anime is ‘Cowboy Bebop’) but because how Paprika revolutionized film editing and also offered concepts which inspired films such as ‘Inception’.
There are so many good anime materials which are hugely influential in Hollywood other than the list you have shown us, which is good but quite lacking.

And now, some notable names you DIDN’T Mention that probably deserve to be on this list over some other entries…

Tetsujin 28: The First-Ever Giant Robot Anime

Sally The Witch: The First Magical Girl Anime (Though debated over whether Sally or Akko-Chan came first)

Lupin III (1971): The First Anime to be aimed at an adult audience, and helped kick-start the careers of Ghibli Co-Founders Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki.

Ashita no Joe & Star of the Giants: Popularized sports anime in Japan.

Candy Candy & The Rose of Versailles: Highly influential shows that popularized shojou anime during the period.

Mazinger Z: The First proper "Super Robot" Anime to feature a robot with a pilot inside of it as opposed to a remote control a’la Tetsujin 28.

Cutie Honey: The First Magical Girl with a transformation and the first anime to feature gratuitous nudity.

Space Battleship Yamato: Popularized the space Opera in anime and was the first anime to have a boatload of merchandise attached to it.

Fist of the North Star: Established the tropes and formulas as what we know today as the modern Shonen genre

Space Runaway Ideon: The First anime to be a deconstruction of the super robot genre.

Then again, I wouldn’t expect any sort of knowledge about these series from Watchmojo.
