So the game almost broke her, she spent over 100 hours into it AND she’s staying up till 8 AM but she gives it an 8.25? I don’t understand. I get that anything over an 8 is pretty good but what are the games she’s playing that she scores over a 9?

It’s natural the people watching this video and giving all the thumbs downs are hardcore dragon quest fans. How DARE they give this masterpiece anything less than a 9.5!!! GRRRRR NERD RAGE.
Except for the fact they already are STRONGLY recommending this game for hardcore dragon quest fans… YOU WILL ENJOY IT FOR SURE. THEY ADMIT THIS.

"It’s not classic anymore, it’s archaic." Something gamers (and developers) need to take to heart.

This review leaves out important information and focuses too much on personal nitpicks. No attempt to seem objective was even made.

God she’s a bad reviewer. 1) It should not take this long to explain why it got the score it did. The grating voice doesn’t help. 2) All the criticisms don’t match up with the score. It seems like it should have scored lower but your fangirlism for DQ let you give it a free pass.

I totally disagree about save points in front of bosses. games where being killed by a boss does nothing but restart the battle to try again irk me so much. I like bosses to not only be challenging, but also have a stiff punishment for death. either losing money, or time or something.

This game is so fucking infuriating. You go to a town and you see what you need, you are about to get it, but then you have to do a stupid quest for NO reason even tho you need to save the world, and you finish the quest, then 2 seconds later, rinse and repeat. And you better not stray off the path, there is nothing to do and it’s a waste of time.

I highly recommend Colin’s Side Quest review, as well as the Kotaku review.

F**k modern changes! Updated graphics and menus are fine. But classic games must keep the classic gameplay elements which made the games great initially. Look at final fantasy series. They ditched turn based combat for real time combat to appeal to newer generation and FAILED badly!
Look at Persona 5. It didn’t ditch "slower" turn based combat for "modern" real time combat and is considered to be one of the best RPG games of all time.
Bottomline: A little polish is good, but KEEP the classic core gameplay which is heart and soul of the series.

Its not just nods to the series past. The story actually ties into the original trilogy of games.

thankyou dragon quest 11 for sticking to what we love. im sooooo tired of rpgs switching to this live action bull shit. im so glad they used dq8 formula been waiting a long time for this!!!!!
I wish this lady would quit sounding like all the other millinials its not new enough, they didn’t innovate enough, persona did this and did that…. shut the fuck up… we want a true dragon quest game not some reimagined new and improved crap. The games graphics are upgraded to current gen with a new engine and it looks amazing. 100 hours of gameplay along with the formula true fans want.

It’s an overall strange discussion in that it sounds like you guys are talking about a 5/10 sort of game, if you just sat and heard this without knowing the score.

I had to laugh at the final fantasy 10 progress comment, that wasn’t even a game , it was a movie with a few Command options added. To this day it might be the biggest pile of dog shit I’ve ever played, give me the dated final fantasy 4 any day.

Gamers are so fu..ing spoiled. Awww the music isn’t orchestrated, the game is too easy but I can’t save anywhere. The only thing that matters about games is. IS THE GAME FUN? Everything else is just stupid nitpicking.

I already beat this in Japanese. Personal favourite after Breath of the wild last year. So glad they didn’t change everything just to please the west the way FF did. I never beat F15. While it looked great I didn’t enjoy the gameplay too much and I felt that the cars and gas stations just looked dumb. I really wanted to love it too. Some of the bosses were awesome. But I want FF to be more classic next time. It could look modern but the characters and setting should be more like 9. And I want to control all my characters at once. Less running around like a chicken. Save that for Kingdom Hearts.

I’ve been loving DQ XI so far and I kind of wish this was the direction Squeenix went with FF XV: traditional turn-based battles with an emphasis on strategy rather than "hold down the attack button and block occasionally."

Nice try Game Informer, but we aren’t fooled by your BS review and babble here. We know the game is fantastic with very few if any issues at all whatsoever, it’s a fine game and everything in it is as it should be: it’s the pinnacle of the JRPG genre (turn based) and we know it. Too bad you guys are too dumb to know it!

Comments are cancer here. Listen fanboys, dragon quest is outdated and behind series like persona. Western audience will always prefer series like final fantasy and persona over dq. Persona is a 9 and dragon quest is an 8 get over it. Sad seeing dogpiling over an 8.25 which makes sense like who wants to do the same dungeon 5 to 6 times?
