Sword Art Online Live Action CONFIRMED
Sword Art Online Live Action CONFIRMED
A Sword Art Online live action TV series is confirmed to be in development. Skydance Television will be producing it along with Patrick Massett and John Zinman. How hard will it be to make a live version of “Sword Art Online” compared to “Your Name”?

January 29, 2020 @ 8:40 am
They should make up completely new characters. And a new storyline.

January 29, 2020 @ 8:41 am
Honestly they should just take the premise of the show and change everything else. Make it better than the anime.
Seems Legit
January 29, 2020 @ 8:42 am
Now this, if done right it can actually be really good, especially since it doesnt make japanese culture part of the plot.
I don’t have name Lol
January 29, 2020 @ 8:42 am
If the anime is bad,the live action will be terrible

Honestly I don’t know why everyone is shitting on the SAO NA adaptation, I think it’ll be amazing, if they follow the manga sort of well in basic story line basis and get in touch with the creator, this could be the one chance that SAO might be able to fill in the plot holes throughout the story, I’m hoping for the SAO portion rather than the whole series in general to be longer than the 8-9 episodes which what was in the anime, obviously the anime was 25 episodes each season, but the players were only trapped in SAO for the first 8-9 episodes, I know that if Skydance were to stretch the series out like I’m hoping, there’s going to be a ton of filler episodes, so expect to see the real life version of the killing in safezone trick and Kirito and Asuna buying that house ;), I am hoping though that the creator of the manga and the anime artists (assuming that it’s not the same person) can get in touch with Skydance and maybe show their minds how the rest of the bosses that we haven’t seen may look, such as maybe this series can be a 6 season thing 18 episodes each covering everything including ordinal scale and possibly expand to season 3 when it comes around, so in the first 2 seasons, they do all the floor bosses, thats 36 lets say 40 minute episodes, a full 24 hours of footage to show fillers, take away plot holes, and show them beating all the bosses, give a chance to see more characters get entered for character build and get killed just like that, granted it will get old at some points, so hopefully they have episodes of killing 3-4 bosses, then episodes of them not killing any, then next season will be about rescuing asuna, then the next 2 would be about SAO2 then the last being Ordinal Scale, not to be racist, but I am expecting the main characters to be white, at least Asuna and Kirito to fit in with the NA majority, and the text around to say things in english as if it was an NA game.

If I were doing this SAO as a movie. It wouldn’t have 100 floors, it could only have three bosses (three acts), and they spend only a few weeks in the game. The whole die in the game, die in real life would be a plot point in the film, but once Kiritio clears the game (and he is given the world seed as a reward), he looses connection to the SAO server and takes off his Nerve Gear and he finds himself laying in his Bed and only a few minutes have gone by since he connected to the server and started the game.
I would have Sugu sitting by the bed when he wakes up. Totally nonchalant. With a TV on with a news cast reporting that SAO servers were hacked/downed and the game failed to launch on its launch day.
Kiritio is besides himself, Sugu says… "Who is Asuna? I heard you say that, I’ve never heard someone speak during a fulldive… Didn’t know that was possible."
Kirito gets up and runs to Asuna’s house, he is blocked by police and Asuna is wheeled out a stretcher. There is a crowd, apparently some are there that Kiritio met in the game.
He goes back to house, and checks the hard drive connected to his Full Dive. He finds WorldSeed.exe and launches it.
This launches Alfein Online (Which I would rename as Spell Craft Online for clarity). Last scene is him entering the game, and spreading eagle wings like he is an angel (no faries, angel), and it cuts to Asuna way far away with an army of minions, setting up Asuna as the end Boss in the next movie.
Why I think this would be a great story, it reminds of Ender’s Game. Kiriito is the destroyer of a world (SAO), just like Ender killing the Formic Planet. And it’s also like sequel to Ender’s Game, Speaker for the Dead, he was given the hive queen egg as atonment for his destruction. I also like the idea of Kiritio being a symbol/speaker for stories of heroes that were forgotten/not rembered, because no one would know the events.of SAO because time was manipulated in fulldive.
This would set up the second movie nicely, I would have Kiritio fail to be able to destroy Asuna, and have it that Sugu was the one to do it. And her anger/bitterness/love for Kiritio play into her decisions and fighting style. At the end of Spell Craft Online, once Asuna is defeated, she is given an item called Rule breaker, before she wakes up in a hospital bed with Kiritio by her side. With Sugu taking off her nerve gear alone, somber.
In the third film, haven’t thought too much about it. But Kirito is like a badass Jedi (but no force powers) in that one and the movie writes itself, but I’d scrap Sinon and have her role replaced by Asuna. And Kiriito fails to beat Death Gun (and death gun would be so much cooler because when he kills someone in the game they do actually die, which is a nice little jab at the changes made for the first film). Asuna uses RuleBreaker, to kill Death Gun, it gives and her force like powers, force push, force choke, all that good stuff.

If there’s anything they can change in the live action adaptation, maybe they can remove the harem aspects and add more monster killing?

You know, the last live action movies based on great animes, like Death Note, ended up horrible. But that had me wondering, , the original SAO was poorly done, so would that make live action movie be a major success.
And let’s be honest, they have to have learned from the original’s mistakes.

In terms of writing SAO could actually be way better from western writers especially without the original producers

Just make it a film, and let Reki Kawahara be consulted, just like they did with "Ghost In The Shell", and make Steven Spielberg or James Cameron to direct this.
