So you’ve probably figured it out by this point. But this arc gets dark, like really dark. It’s like the author figured that he wanted to write a seinen instead for this arc. I wouldn’t expect a happy ending.

    Clarification for some things:
-Volo’s sword doesn’t become stronger with the more people he defeats in battle. It’s just a mantra in Volo’s family that boosts their confidence, increasing their "imagination power" to change the laws of the world in their favor.
-Asuna’s guild was called Knights of the Blood Oath.
-Strength of imagination isn’t a new concept in Alicization. It was introduced in episode 7 when Kirito stated that if you have enough willpower/imagination, you can change the laws of the world. The duel in this episode and the flower scene just demonstrated this power. Ex: Volo imagined his family legacy a la One For All to give him strength while Kirito imagined all of his friends and loved ones a la the power of friendship to give himself strength.
-Also Volo would’ve won the duel if it wasn’t stopped, or at least it still would’ve been a tie, considering they were both about to strike each other, and Volo had better positioning than Kirito.
-In the garden scene, Kirito actually considered straight up attacking the two dick nobles if he had his sword on him, breaking the rules, Taboo Index, etc. Also yeah, the entire garden scene was essentially demonstrating the "imagination" power as we’ll call it now.
-As for the Sword Academy, it takes 2 years to graduate iirc, then they have to go through a tournament to gain access to the Axiom Church (the big tower in the center of the city).
-And as for things being happy, it really isn’t for Kirito. It’s explained in short detail in the garden scene, but it’s explained more in the light novel: Kirito is suffering internally. On the outside he’s acting all happy but on the inside he doesn’t even know if he’ll ever get out of this world. He may never see his friends, family, and loved ones ever again, which is a pretty depressing thought. His only hope is to go to the Axiom Church and hope that there’s an admin console at the top to get out.
Anyways, I love when reactors also analyze the shows they’re watching, keep it up. Subbed!
P.S: Imo so far Volo’s my fav char in Alicization, just because his imagination power is akin to One For All, lol.

By the way, if you’re interested in the whole "imagination" powers thing, it comes up in Accel World (made by the same author in the same universe). It would make a nice segue, and there’s very few reactions to AW on Youtube…

Shameless "please watch this show" comment 😛
