   Ok, seeing this I want to contribute with some points about Evangelion:
   -I saw someone throwing a spoiler… but Evangelion is not about the ending, is about the journey.
   -Even with all of its endings, you also have a lot of interpretations.
   -Don’t try to understand Evangelion, let Evangelion understands you.
   -They seem mechas, but later you will find that’s not the whole story. The ‘mechas’ are major characters as well, they are not those common robots with someone inside piloting them.
   -If you watch the anime, prepare yourself for the whole experience: All 25/26 episodes, the first movies that came out after the series ended, and the 4 movies of Rebuild of Evangelion.
   -Embrace and prepare to be mind r***d

   Ah Evangelion. You can’t talk about popular anime without this show coming up. Quite possibly the biggest contender for anime people regard as the best of all time. It’s known for its great characters, great story, great mech fights, and great symbolism and religious imagery. Not to mention "A Cruel Angel’s Thesis" is one of the best op’s i have seen in a while for not only having good music, but representing the show really well. Once the 3.0+1.0 movie releases, I can finally start and get caught up with Evangelion

   Several people have pointed out the "G" in "Evangelion" is hard, but seemingly no one wonders why. Well, it’s because it’s an ancient Greek word (which has been translated into English as "gospel", BTW; there’s a lot of borrowing from religious/mystic concepts, as the OP hints with images from Kabbalah), and in normal Romanization, "G" corresponds to letter Gamma (Γ/γ), which was a hard "G" in ancient Greek.

   Evangelion does only have 1 opening it was a 25 episode series as well as a movie it’s about lovecraftian aliens called Angels trying to exterminate all life on earth and humans building robots called Eva’s to fight them

   Funny that you said on 2:17 "it doesn’t not give me a depressing impression". Cause this series is famous for being super dark and depressed. One of my absolute favourites, cause of the great direction by Hideaki Anno and really interesting characters. Also stellar animation at times for a year 1995. Especially in a sequel movie which was made in 1997, still I have not seen anything that beat it for me in cinematography.
   The main plot of the series is about kids, who fight in the giant mechas against an "Angels", some kind of Godly terrifying alien creatures. Although it’s just a mask of that series, and the main conflict is the one inside ourselves.
   Overall a great anime. It’s not everyone cup of tea, but if you enjoy interesting psychological stories and existential questions you will certainly love this series.

   Also you wasn’t sure if the series were successful. But not just that, it was groundbreaking at the time. First being a psychological deconstruction and tropes subverting anime and also one of the most successful original anime of all time.

   Also it does give a Pacific Rim impression at first. I might be wrong, but Pacific Rim took some inspiration from Eva. It was compared a lot at the time by media.

   Frank Sinatra is this show fan… so he created the credits of this show. 😋

   I just finished this show a week ago.
   It is one of the most disturbing Anime.
   The sci fi story is also top notch.
   This is also the first anime that made its way to the western adult audience…. and the foundation of many great animes to follow.

   I feel really glad to have watched this masterpiece. To me….this is a god tier anime. 😀

    Evangelion pronounced with "g" not "j". Sorry for such a correction, but that for some reason annoyed me a little bit.

    You were right. It’s a 90s series about Mechas fighting robots.

    Also I’d recommend Durarara openings. They’re quite old fashioned but very good songs!

    Actually watching this right now. Trying to clear out my Netflix list which is mostly anime and Korean dramas.
