Her Mom, can’t give birth. Asuka is a test tube baby. Her mom got the sperm from a sperm bank. Her Dad got another woman give birth to another daughter. And Asuka’s Mom became crazy, to the point of committing suicide. Making her live with her step Mom.

You know I was 14 when I saw this, I was the age, it put in lasting influences to my adolescent development for sure, I recommend watching Mar’s Successor Nadesico after watching the movie, it came out a year after Eva, and to me is the antithesis to this show in many ways, since the Japanese sub culture after this discovered a very ugly tool from Eva, to make a story that has so many secrets and nonsensical settings and don’t have to own up to it and leave it as a mystery, only they are not Anno Hideaki and just make a jumbled mess.

"This has to be the best ending ever" – man, I translated this series in French in 1996 and couldn’t agree more with your statement. Actually I am so glad to hear that reaction despite all those commentaries who told you to "skip" episodes 25-26 to get the "proper" ending with the movie. Omedetou 🙂

About that alternative universe, I read somewhere that it looked like Gainax (the studio that created NGEvangelion) saying "look at what kind of anime we could’ve done and didn’t do".

I love that you are so close at 19:44 but so far. Congratulations you were like the rest of us when we watched the last two episodes. My reaction to the ending was to stair at the screen then slowly place the first DVD back into the DVD player and watch again.

I was very happy with ep. 26 at the time, the movie is another version but ep. 26 is absolutely ok.
This is a series you have to watch multiple time.. remember back in the day, me and my friends speaking about all those mysteries, it was before the Internet and we were really into it lol.

I see this was published in July 2017, so I don’t know if you know already, but these last two episodes were the actual Intrumentality project. As you called it at some point, it’s the process through which all humans become one… I’m not quite sure but I think all of this is happening inside an eva. After the movie you might feel (or might have felt, I don’t know) that you understnd a lot more of the show. The movie is set right before, during and right after these episodes.

Hey have you heard of a tabletop roleplaying game called Tears Of A Machine? If not it’s super cool. Unlike D&D it comes with its own unique dice system that allows players and a GM to tell fantastical stories in the same vein as this Anime. However it has a different setting that is still good! Maybe even better and more scientifically accurate which is really cool about it. Yes there is also rules for when your giant robot goes “Berserk”. If you ever wanna try it out let me know!

it was really interesting watching your reaction as opposed to this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4j9IqoFpo8 Because while flaming-shark grasps onto the base principles almost immediately the fact that it takes you a while to even penetrate what the fuck’s going on really highlights the disconnecting effect the episodes had on a lot of the fans.
I was also confused when I first watched it but not in the same way, I felt as if I’d missed an episode inbetween 24 and 25 showing them going into instrumentality, end of evangelion helped with that but the ooc shinji characterisation in the movie was hard to get past.

Watching this as a teen led me to this conclusion: "after shinji killed the last angel, the human instrumentalization project started and it was all about getting into the psyche of all characters and convincing shinji that life can be good" I was really satisfied with this and ended up crying out of happiness. A great ending for a great series. Did I want to see an "epic final battle"? Yes, but ep 25/26 where just what I was needing at that time of my life. It didn’t occur to me that the end of the world was happening at the same time 🙂

They sould have made the Avengers Endgame like this if the majority of people had the brains or sense. But they didn’t because it was made by Disney(The biggest company that milk out of fantasy and made Star Wars a crap movie) which they only think about money.

If someone wants to see Evangelion I recommend you to see this episodes in the right moment when the Eva 01 goes inside the giant Rei-Lilith and everyone is fused in the movie the end of evangelion, this is what happend in their souls and minds before Shinji decided to revert it, watching it in that order is way better and makes you feel extremly inmersed in the story. As if you were also part of it, I really recomend everyone to look evangelion in that order.
