Yo X! This show explains to you things the hard way. You have to pay VERY close attention to the smallest of details. You’re not gonna get spoon fed with explanations like nowadays happens in anime. This happens for the rest of the series. Everything is there but you have to notice it.

If you’re expecting EVA to tell you anything straight up tell you stuff through exposition then you’re out of luck and you’re going to be confused a lot. It’s really not that confusing as you make it though just relax a little bit lmao

dont try to make sense of the show just now, just accept things as they are. evas are not what you initially think they might be… which probably would be simply robots. they are obviously more and we will get to know more about them gradually. the real reason the kids can pilot them and what they essentially are will be even weirder when disclosed. Just enjoy the WTF-Ride for now, especially in the second half of the show. the next episodes will be mainly some light hearted fun actually, relatively speaking. That being said, in general the show doesnt drop exposition bombs, but follows more a "show, dont tell" approach or rather drops casually very important information in some seemingly unimportant dialogue or scenes that is actually vital. I didnt understand the story after my first view either, so its no shame to go synopsis and analysis/interpretation hunting later. Would recommend doing so after you finished the show tho, because duhh, spoilers obviously.

As others have said: pay attention to EVERYTHING.
It’s the only way to truly understand what’s going on.
Oh, also, a friendly piece of advice: Don’t assume things. I mean, you’re free to speculate, but don’t assume things; don’t say "oh, this must be why "x" thing is this way".
Example: Don’t assume that the Eva protected Shinji from the falling lamps because he is already linked to it. The answer as to why the Eva did it will come later. Just pay attention to those details, keep them in mind and don’t rush to conclusions; you’ll understand better in the long run if you do that.
