Mainly the problem is you shouldn’t watch evangelion if you aren’t prepared to watch it all to fully grasp whats happening. It is one of the biggest and most respected anime up there with Gundam with entire museums in Japan that contain pieces on it.

It IS blood coming out of the Evangelion units. The ‘robots’ are actually biological clones of Angels, and Asuka felt everything happening, and because of the high sync ratio when her head was pierced her eye burst.
You can see the blood pouring out of her eye, but it is hard to see because it is dark, rewatch this scene knowing all this.
Watch "Neon Genesis Evangelion" and then this movie "End of Evangelion".
Also understand that the show and movie contain HEAPS of religious symbolism, Hideaki Anno has stated it was because it was aesthetically pleasing, but it also makes sense.
Also in Japanese the name for the Angels is ‘Apostle’ but he told the translators to make it Angel so we could understand it better.
This anime is a contender for number one anime ever created for me. The anime is a very realistic look at depression and mental illness, Anno would know since he was depressed when he wrote it. It was a way for him to overcome it, at least that is what I understand, if I am wrong can someone correct me?

Why do you keep saying "he"? It’s obviously a female pilot piloting that mecha. I think you’re under the impression that every fight has to have two guys, there’s no place for women. In anime there are a lot of fights with badass female characters.

lmao well without context, this scene is meaningless.

Let me give you some context. However, if you plan on watching the series and don’t want to be spoiled, than I don’t recommend reading any further:

This fight took place in a movie that followed the end of this series. The end of the TV show hinted that the world experienced the literal apocalypse, but due to budget constraints the director couldn’t show what he wanted. This movie is the result of finally getting the budget they wanted. Thus, the audience was already aware from the beginning of the movie that any fight was going to be completely futile.

The giant red robot was being piloted by the red haired girl: Asuka. She is a psychologically damaged character that was crying out to her mother because we end up learning that every pilot’s dead mother’s soul is implanted into their respective mecha robots. She stakes her entire identity as a pilot, because her insecurities have rung very deep since her mother hung herself in front of her.

The Main character sits by with that red goo in a hangar, feeling useless, helpless, and depressed as his own mind has reached its near breaking point. Then Asuka is brutally mutalated over the intercomm while the entire scene is overlayed by somber classical music that expresses the helpless tragedy that is simply unavoidable, yet somehow it comes off as compelling at the same time.

The funny thing is, the end of the movie ends up expressing a fairly positive message after such a terrifying and depressing climax to the story, I won’t get into any more though.

Should probably watch the series first. Otherwise your reaction means nothing really.

There are these giant robots that fight giant aliens know as Angels. This scene is from the move where the government tries to take down the organization called NERV who own the robots know as Evas.
