Watching this review made me absolutely regret skipping last week’s Let’s Watch Something. But what can I do, it was my last tutorial class. Fucking hell. I have a feeling I would have fallen in love with this show almost immediately. Oh well then. ^_^

Whether you know this or not Tony, some of the old Ghibli movies had old dubs before the Disney versions. My Neighbour Totoro (of course), Laputa: Castle in the Sky, Nausicaa and a couple of others did as well (I believe)

It was really cool to hear the background story on when you watched the movie as a kid. :’)
It took me back to my days as a kid in Hollywood video, checking out Sailor Moon R: Promise of the Rose on VHS every other weekend. x3 Those movies that just take you back to the youth and magic are so valuable.

I can’t agree with you here. I find the Disney dub the superior version. And I was first introduced to this movie by the original dub. My problem with the old dub is Satzuki and Mai sound like middle aged women doing squeaky voices (which they are). I like how the Disney version they are voiced by two actual sisters, who are actually young girls. They sound authentic, and have good chemistry. Also the old dub has that old anime dub awkwardness to it, stilted and seems like the team didn’t think to put in the effort. I think you only like the old one because of your nostalgia googles.

I never watch any Hayao Miyazaki in my lifetime so I don’t have this childhood connections or connections with any of his movies because I just didn’t care for them to be honest until I decide to check out one of his movies and that is My Neighbor Totoro. After watching this review I wanted to check it out and I think the movie is enjoyable, the animation is great I can see why people love his movies alot and the Disney dub in my mind wasn’t that great now I know that Fox did this before Disney but I wanted to check the Disney dub just to see if it’s that bad now I have seen new dubs be done well like FUNimation with the One Piece dub and Viz with the Sailor Moon dub. Was it bad? Yeah it’s bad not god awful but still. I enjoyed this movie alot I might not be a big Hayao Miyazaki fan but this movie is a classic for sure.

No funny opening? Um…Let’s see…You know I saw the trailer with BCG and his sword and that Totoro doll and it made me think of this. "What would happen if Quentin Tarantino did this idea? It would’ve been a masterpiece called My Killer Totoro." Where’s my one buck Tony?

When we were packing our stuff away in an English lesson yesterday, my teacher saw my friend’s Totoro pencil case and said, "Hey, nice pencil case! I, too, have a slight Totoro obsession." She’s now one of my favourite teachers ?

Interestingly enough, Miyazaki based this off his own personal life growing up as a little kid with his mom staying in the hospitals due to tuberculosis. In fact, Mei and Satsuki were going to be boys, but he changed their genders because Hayao realized it would be way too emotional for his sake. I’m glad he did that.

Please review Wander Over Yonder! The show was cancelled before it’s story was finished, and there is a LARGE movement to get DISNEY to make season 3. The movement needs to be spread! #SaveWOY

I am going to put this out their but this was rather biased by a heavy dose of nostalgia. Is it a decent movie that kids would love yes. Is it a 5 star movie, well no. Furthermore the flipping out at the minor voice and music changes is further evidence of nostalgia fueled bias.

This was actually my first studio ghibli film and it’ll always have a special place in my heart,, I remember my sister and I went to an anime convention together down in England (she only went because I was desperate to go there and see J.Michael Tatum and I didn’t have anyone else to go with but this experience made it really special) and we saw so many totoro plushes and a full art book for it (which I now very proudly own) and I knew a little bit about totoro but had never seen the film so as soon as we got back home I bought the film and we watched it together and both loved it (in fact a little tradition we have now is that whenever I go to a con I buy her a totoro themed thing) and i have watched and loved a lot of studio ghibli’s films ever since.

I had a similar instance to you when it first came on, I grew up with Disney and it felt so different in the best possible way, it really is a magical experience. Plus it’s one of the very few Japanese anime type things that my sister likes so it brought us closer together at a time when we seemed way too different and that’s also why it’s so special to me.

It’s not my absolute favourite ghibli film (The simplicity is charming but it’s also it’s downfall in the sense that other films seem superior in terms of story and engagement) but it’s still incredibly charming and special to me. I haven’t watched it in a while though because the DVD we got unfortunately broke and I need to watch it again. But I digress, this film is absolutely wonderful and will always be the super special film that started my love for studio ghibli

Also I can’t choose between Totoro or Heen from howl’s moving castle for the most adorable studio ghibli character, totoro is super cute but so is Heen and I have a super big soft spot for doggos so that’s an issue :’D
