I was cautiously optimistic and I’m glad that I wasn’t disappointed, this was a very promising start. The nods to Ashita no Joe made me giddy, and it seems anime like Samurai Champloo and Red Line may have served as inspiration for some of the world/aesthetics; with all of this though, the anime still manages to be its own thing, and I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Modern anime that doesn’t look like a pile of shit? I must be dreaming.

Shirato’s performer sounds like Yohko herself. From Champion Joe 2 to be precise. 😉

Really intriguing first episode, the little taste it gives you is just enough to make you want to see how this develops, another potentially good anime from this year, it seems that maybe there is an oncoming shift, there might actually be variety and quality for once, instead of shitty light novel teen dramas about a man named Hentai-kun and his harem of brain dead waifus

JD’s voice is just as dry and snarky as Aoi Teruhiko (Joe)

watching this I’m already envisioning how great this series could be. Just imagine this kind of tribute to Joe – in the final match they batter each so hard, they break each other’s gears off, and they just continue pounding away at each other with blood flying everywhere, bringing back the spirit of traditional boxing (with silhouettes of Joe’s matches superimposed over the fight as an added kicker).
