A show would’ve been way better. But the movie was not terrible, it was kinda okay for a average movie.

For fans of death note we are gonna see all those glaring flaws jump out and get annoyed! for anyone else? i think its a good bridge to get them to watch the actual anime. But yea was so much wrong i give it a big thumb down… but its not as bad as dragonball evolution or the last air bender so there is that!

I’m sorry but I was angered that they destroyed my favorite character L. The reason I love the Japanese live action movies is because Kenichi Matsuyama does a great job in portraying L and he looks like L. Also Tatsuya Fujiwara does a good job of portraying Light and keeping Light’s original personality. Netflix’s Death note took away the cat and mouse chase and the battle of wits between the two and forced a romance between Light Turner and Mia. It became less a battle of wits between Light and L and a fight over the death note between Light Turner and Mia. In the Japanese Live action they did a show don’t tell so you were able to tell that L was smart. Like for example when he shown that the heart attacks were indeed murder and not caused by illness. He does it again with a law of great numbers to show that the murderer is a college student. In the Netflix movie, the show don’t tell is severely lacking and they just expect you to assume that the characters are smart like they show that Light Turner is doing math problems and getting paid but that doesn’t prove anything and the theories of Kira being in Seattle is just stupid because the criminal’s tox screen is clean. He could have just had a mental illness. Then when L came to the conclusion that Kira needed a name and a face. We know how he came to the conclusion in the manga, the anime, and the Japanese live action but it doesn’t make sense in the Netflix version at all. Just so many things about the characters are changed that they are so unrecognizable. They should have made the characters look like their manga/anime counterpart even if they white washed/black washed them for the sake of diversity. It’s a adaptation but they took the name of death note. They can’t have their cake and eat it too so unless they wanted to do a whole original thing and change all the characters’ names to originals like they should have done, they should have made the characters look like their counterparts and act like their counterparts too.

If they make a sequel, have them introduce a character similar to Shien from the 2016 Japanese movie.. He wants nothing more than to be Kira, even willing to kill the current one to do it. Having a Kira VS Kira movie would actually be something really interesting, since it hasn’t happened in literally any other form of Death Note. I know what I just said about Shien, but he only really acts like that at the end, so I highly recommend you watch it if you have seen both the 2006 live action movies.. You will enjoy it.

Okay this is my honest opinion on the movie.

To be honest, it was a decent movie. But, like the point made in the video, it shouldn’t have been using the same characters. As a standalone movie, let’s admit it, it’s actually a good movie. When compared to the source material however, that’s when it goes south.

It’s what happened to the Percy Jackson movies. As an outsider looking in with limited knowledge of the source material (Yes, this was my first introduction to Death Note, since immediately after I watched every episode and read all the manga within a week. Same with Percy Jackson, I read every book released at that time immediately after watching the movies) it is a great movie that’s enjoyable and can be seen as something to watch again. Hell, even now I’ve seen all the anime and read all the manga I still somewhat enjoy the movie partially because if you disregard the original stuff, it has a good story. Perhaps if they renamed the characters and made it exist in an alternate universe to the original Death Note, it could be accepted by the fan community. Many fandoms have had this done and their fans have just learnt to move on, and in time, so will the Death Note fandom.

Most dedicated Fans are outraged, and rightfully so, and some probably will be for an extremely long time, if not forever, but many more will learn to accept it as just an alternate universe retelling or as what would happen under different circumstances. It takes time, but eventually most will learn to acknowledge it, though some may never do so.

Let’s just face it, this was a mistake, but maybe in time it will hold a place in our hearts and be laughed off.

    4. why are there no heart attack
    5. why isnt there Lind L Tailor
    6. why is Ryuk and "Mia" behind all this and not Light

I loved the Death note anime but I didn’t hate the Netflix movie adaptation, it was pretty solid and a nice compliment to the anime, but I’m not a die-hard fan so maybe that’s why. You guys are probably going through the same thing I did when they made an Avatar the last airbender movie adaptation. Peace :3

I didn’t even know what death note was so I watched the movie first then the anime thinking of the movie know it did have some down falls(ok a lot ) and to be honest they should have made the cast better like l or light like damn light,I can see know he was stupid in the movie but smart in the anime whatttt oh but not all u see L cry and be all emotional and stuff with the death of watirre (Idk how to spell his name sry?)but ya that’s the most truth of my opinion on this movie but ya know it would be good if something’s were changed a lot ???

The problem is, even though all of us knew it would suck, most of us still ended up watching it. As far as the producers are concerned, that’s all that matters. As long as we keep consuming anything that comes with the brand, they won’t care about giving us something really worth watching.

I just watched it last night reluctantly expecting to hate it as a fan of the anime; but honestly I don’t feel its as nearly as bad as people are saying. I’d say its good. Not great, but kept me entertained.

I understood that it was going for its own vison; and while maybe nothing was particularly… better I still entertained by it.

the movie L was interesting but too over the top. L was never that 100% sure in the anime, but i doubt they really tried to make that the main point of the movie. People who have never seen death note will be extremely confused because everything seemed rushed and the death note’s origin or history was never explained. people who watched the anime would enjoy it more but Light was too annoying. he pulled a "typical anime villian" in the end of the movie when he explained what he did to kill everyone. like my dude, how did you think of ALL that in the span of time it took you to bring the death note back to Mia
