He obviously had fun using the death note when he was already bored of life. So death note actually made his life better according to me

I think boredom is what ruined Light’s life.

I wonder how satisfied Light would have felt had he grown to become one of the greatest detectives and work alongside L.
He was in high school, knew he was studying to eventually enter the NPA (if I’m not mistaken), had even helped them solve a few cases, had the whole plan and course mapped out. But he was bored and seemingly unsatisfied with life and society despite having a bright and promising future, despite being Japan’s brightest and one of Japan’s brightest. He was brilliant, handsome, girls liked him, he was considered popular, was the Tennis Junior Champion had awards and merits, got into To-Oh University which no average person gets into, gave the freshman ceremony speech etc. He had everything a man would want and a woman would want in a man. Yet he still seemed slightly unsatisfied and emotionally distant/unengaged.
Side note, look how he spoke to his mother. Look how he spoke to his father and even his sister. Just emotionally distant.
If he never found the Death Note, grew to work alongside L, considering how bored and unsatisfied he was with everything, I wonder how happy he would’ve been. He seemed emotionally unengaged with a lot of regular life activities imo. He seemed slightly unhappy not from sadness but unsatisfaction which led to empty boredom.
Maybe he was so brilliant anything that wasn’t as smart or didn’t spark his interest was mundane. He seemed to have fun fighting L, when L died he said it was no fun around here without him.
Point is he had everything going for him but still seemed unsatisfied and bored. Light is a complex character actually DN is a complex creation, "Tsegumi Ohba" is brilliant himself and made one of the greatest manga/anime of all time. Death Note will always be in the Anime/Manga hall of fame and will stand the test of time.

I agree with this video. I suppose the notebook brought Light some sort of Hubris, how most Greek heroes fall. The Death Note is sort of like the dark side of the Force, it lures you in with false promises and fake confidence, and you start to go mad from using it until it’s too late, your a Sith.

Kinda obviously. Overwhelming power will literally change a person in a bad way if they’re too addicted. He lost his father, he become a criminal and he died early. So it did ruin his life.

That’s true, when I started watching this anime, I was like "Light is so cute is my crush" and I was on his side, he used to have good intentions, but since he started using Misa I was like "man you’re mean" and I started to be on the side of L. Then, when Light killed L , I started being afraid at him, I didn’t like him anymore. Althought I didn’t like Near at all, I was happy when he and Mello atrapped Light. Anyway, I cried when he died, I thought "If he had never found the Death Note, his life would have been so happy"

Because light thought ryuk as a friend just like when l thought light as a friend then betrays him. What a sad and interesting anime

Pretty much the whole theme of the show, how no matter how Noble you are power can easily corrupt anyone. His own power even causes his own mistakes i.e eating L’s bait at the start and it obviously snowballed till the end where he got too cocky and lost in the end. It’s also ironic how he knows the weakness of the death book but in the end was still his undoing

I disagree. It wasn’t the death note that made him like this, but his own free will. If we had the power of God every one of us would be evil because of our sinful nature. But then again everybody has their own opinion.

If he won like he was supposed to, and if he did not have a god complex, then having the death note > not having the death note. But the power went to his head after he defeated L and he saw himself as a god.

Even so,Light still would’ve turned into a serial killer eventually.I mean yes, before he had the death note he had good intentions, but that doesn’t change the fact that he was a bored and empty psycopath. It’s been stated that if he never found the death note he’d be working along side L.But even then he’d still be bored,I mean a detective can only do soo much, they still have to abide by the laws. But Kira could do whatever he pleased and kill whoever he deemed ‘rotten’.I mean even L,the best detective in the world, didn’t make as big an impact on the world as Kira did.Sure he solved a lot of unsolvable cases, but that’s about it.While Kira, even though he did kill a lot of innocent people,he reduced crime worldwide by 70%.And at the end of the day, that’s what Light wanted. He wanted to rid the world of criminals,so he’d never be completly happy being a detective.

In a non applying but applicable way, drugs can really flip people’s lives upside down. Going one good direction then going a total other. Then they are left to face the consequences. Lost opportunities, thousands of dollars lost, hurt families, burned bridges, getting involved with wrong people who can try to use you, even become homeless, even overdose. Drugs can really destroy a life, like the Death Note destroyed Light Yagami’s. And they’re left battered and bruised inside and out lost and running remembering the old them before drug addiction as they pass by their old walking grounds.

I think the biggest villain in Death Note was Ryuk. Light was just a kid. I think it’s fair to say that his first two kills were the reason he became Kira. He justified those kills by convincing himself that he was chosen by the higher powers to bring justice on the world. He didn’t kill people because he was evil, he did it because THEY were evil. It’s fate, destiny, etc. In reality, though, it was actually dumb luck. But if he accepted that, then he would be a murderer. He couldn’t accept himself as evil, so he became the bringer of justice. CLEARLY the higher powers wanted him to kill, he’s a messenger, god has chosen him for this, and so for the greater good, he can give up his mind. Then later, when he killed more and more innocent people, he lost it even more. He had to surpass god, he had to become god. That way he can do no wrong. It’s a clever little mental trick, really. He is a genius, after all.

The way I see Death Note, is that it’s sort of an archetypal tragedy set in the modern world. Light is the righteous, kind, headstrong, intelligent and future-oriented kid and then he makes a contract with the Devil, i.e., Ryuk, and he becomes the Devil himself, even a greater evil than Ryuk was. That’s what Ryuk himself says in episode 5 I think it is, that Light is a worthy Shinigami. Light becomes the Devil, he falls from grace. I think his name might literally be a play on that. Because in Japanese, his name is the character moon, which is pronounced Tsuki usually, but it’s read as Light. So Light is the archetypal "light" representing goodness, purity, righteousness in the same way, I think, as Lucifer. Lucifer in Latin literally means "the light bearer" and the popular fable about Lucifer is that he was God’s greatest creation, but he fell from grace and became the Devil. I think that’s basically what happened with Light. Light is "Lucifer" he is the upright, talented, righteous, kind headstrong young man who falls from grace and becomes a Shinigami himself.

So first of all, yes. He was _atleast_ as intelligent as L. He was developing the same moral standing that his father had, and would have been able to better use his gifts, compared to the more… _passive_ L. In the end, he may have been able to _eclipse_ L’s influence.

But aside from that, _whats with you and the word ‘maniacally’. It bugs the _hell_ outta me.
