Personally i like alot about the end. True i agree that this is the high point of the show and that the actual end is supbar compared to this. I do like a few of the characters in part two just hate the main protagonist of part two

As many times as I’ve watched this, I just realized a solution that Rem could have used. She could have killed Light (accomplishes nothing but spites him) then kill L. Rem would still die, but she wouldn’t let Light manipulate Misa anymore. Of course Misa would be devastated, but I guess that would jus be a choice for Rem to make

PS: I never did get the foot washing and massaging scene. I know it’s a reference to Jesus washing the feet of Judas, but here it comes off way weirder. All Judas would do is betray Jesus, not commit mass murder then betray Jesus to cover his crimes. That extra context makes L jus look weak and soft for surrendering

By the way Misa did not extend her life when Rem died, it was Light who extended his life beyond average human because he had own the note book when the previous owner died.
It was a three birds with on stone. Rem,L and Extended Life!!

The show is still watchable after this, we all know that, but anyone who thinks it is objectively as good or better than the first 25 episodes is lying to themselves.

The last third has no time to set up new characters and moves way too quickly. If it was given more time, perhaps it would be fantastic, but it was not. Near is just a less interesting L, and Mello is not developed enough. There are a few pretty cool episodes, but a lot of it just feels like they ran out of material.

Besides the chip, this is, for me, the most memorable scene in the series. Third most memorable is Light’s pathetic end…

The part at 3:05, where the music gets all creepy is probably the most insane part of this episode or even the anime, to me anyways. This part I think was supposed to be implied or assumed if you payed attention keenly throughout the anime, as it was not made super easy to catch. Here’s how:

If you pay attention to LITERALLY EVERYTHING like me lol, you’ll notice Lights response to L’s question differs from a previous episode where Light had his memory erased about the notebook. L had already asked Light about his feelings for Misa. He had proposed to use the advantage of her having feelings for him to get info out of her. Light not only said it was against his morals but that he does not feel anything for her.

So Light, responding to the question in this episode with not wanting to pursue love or anything, thus not denying he has feelings, contradicts what Light had said before. Queue the creepy music and the way they made Light’s face disfigured with the stairs, while L just stares off. He realized at that moment, how much of a monster Light is and that he was back as KIRA or that something was off. Everyone I know just thinks it was random music and a weird moment. But it actually meant something huge.

    Pretty crazy right?

That scene in the rain was probably one of the best moments of the show in a really sad way.
L asked Light a simple question. A weird, childish question.
"From the moment you were born has there ever been a moment were you have told the truth?".
The first time i saw the show I thought L somehow knew himself already defeated and wanted to just provoke Light, but then, if you think about how Light answers, it really takes on a horrible meaning.
Light does not ask further questions, he doesn’t ask what L is talking about or what does it have to do with. Instead he argues that EVERYONE lies, and that the fact that he does doesn’t make him evil or a bad person. But that’s just it.
Any other normal person would ask what they’ve lied about, or when, and worried about it. But not only does Light know exactly what L is talking about, his own self-aggrandizing, narcissistic nature compels him to get offended because the fact that he does what he does (lying and cheating to keep murdering) doesn’t mean he’s a bad person. Far from it. He’s the God of the new word.
He knows he’s suspected of killing hundreds of innocent people, and then wonders what does lying have to do with it.
And L knows that that’s exactly what Kira is like. Someone who is easily provoked into excusing their own misdeeds and believes most of all in their own righteousness. With just one question L found Light’s mind to be identical to Kira’s.
His hunch is confirmed. But it’s too late, and there is no actual evidence.
And then he dies, having solved his mystery.

The reason why L is in the rain because he knows he’s going to die and also the way L is cleaning light’s feet admitting his defeat

When L washes lights feet, It’s a reference to when Jesus washed Judas’ feet before Judas betrayed jesus.

If they would just shut the fuck up and grow up they might actually be able to understand that scene between light and L when they drying each other off. I mean it’s like he knew he was going to die and it just makes that scene even more powerful and sad.

2:25 We don’t know what happened to any of the kids in that place, if they were orphans, if they were runaways, if they were abandoned or if they were just sent there, but I think to L that was still the closest thing he ever had to a proper home and that as far as he was emotionally and mentally capable of caring for someone he cared for Watari

You were right about the Jesus washing the feet I’m pretty sure. And L had all the evidence to prove Light as Kira but didn’t because he liked Light so he chose to lose.
    That’s what I think anyway

I wanted the show to end after this episode, honestly I loved this episode and I was happy light won at this point. Yeah it’s pretty dark, but at the same time he would stop killing good guys now that he won, and he could just keep the world free of crime
