People go out and go shopping, to make up meals and drinks and forget about the crisis, then goes to the gym and do the diet ’cause summer is coming.
The children go to school and university ‘hoping for a better tomorrow, but today as yesterday we do not know if they will come’.
Older people would rather just have it tomorrow, but know that they will ‘never like them yesterday and they feel alone and misunderstood.
All others do not have time to think, taken between 1000 and 1 things with which we fill our existence to try to make sense.
Everything ‘went on:
The trees are in bloom, the wind is still blowing, children playing, the sun rising and setting.
A lot of people and ‘married, left, love, betrayal, passion, she rejoiced, crying, and’ nervous but not for long, ’cause after the rain there’ always peaceful.
Everything ‘went ahead in the world outside.
But inside me, no. If I look inside my heart I have a picture of you that does not speak but smiled at me and makes me feel good. The ending was great and unique but it was painful too. The way Light’s life ended still gives me the goosebumps. The way he was shouting, smirking, laughing and screaming was heart breaking. The way he was shot my Matsuda several times was painful. And the way he died on the staircase was dreadful too…

Light Yagami might have been evil. But he had a good objective. He wanted a world with no evil on it. But by his greed and god complex, he ended up being corrupted. That resulted into evil actions. He started off, wanting to grant salvation to this world, but eventually his corrupted and twisted nature made him want to rule the world. He objectively correct, but not morally right. True salvation is an outcome where everyone, good and evil are saved, happy and forgiven. An ideal world of salvation is an utopia where no one has to suffer. His salvation was flawed and incorrect.

I’ve watched the show 3 times over the years, first when I was an angsty teenager who saw a lot of myself in Light. After the ending I was depressed, and angry at the same time. "How could they kill off light? He was such a great character! He deserved to win!" was my thought process at the time.
The Second time I watched the show was when I was a Freshman in College, I was very idealistic, and believed I could make a difference in the world. Again, I looked towards light as the beacon of hope, but I did appreciate L’s role in the show a lot more. However, again I was pissed off at the ending, I thought Light should’ve won.
The Third time I watched it was relatively recently (within the last few months), I’m an adult now, have had some real life experience. Even though I do sympathize with Light still, his cold hard logic, and reasoning, his willingness to do whatever it took to accomplish his goals (which were to make the world a better place). I realize that the ending was perfect for the show, they couldn’t have done it better.
Think of it this way, a young man of great idealism is given the power to make the world a better place. Fights tooth and nail to accomplish his goals, even overcomes the greatest of rivals! Not through superior intellect, but through manipulation, deception, and out-maneuvering his opponent. Ultimately corrupted by power, he still manages to rise to victory. Only to fly too close to the sun, and to be brought down by his own hubris. Light’s defeat was the direct result of his own arrogance, despite being more intelligent than Neer he lost everything because he was so blinded by ambition, and a false sense of godhood. Ultimately his legacy was nothing more than being known as the greatest murderer in the history of mankind and to be universally despised. He sought to do good in the world by removing its evil, and corrupt elements, only to become the very thing he hated and ultimately deposed by his own ambition…
Even the greatest of men are corrupted by power, I believe that to be the most prominent message of this show. You’re free to interpret it how you wish, that’s just my two cents.
The show is truly a masterpiece. Even though the fanbase has become toxic (in many aspects) and many people claim it’s over-rated because that’s the popular thing to do. I will still recommend this as the single best Anime I’ve ever watched (I’ve watched literally hundreds). The story, the characters, the character development, the plot, theme, and the great philosophical nature of it truly makes it in a class of its own.
