Whilst being far from the most offensive piece of media I’ve ever seen, allow me to present an overly long and critical rant about how Attack on Titan (進撃の巨人/Shingeki no Kyojin) is entirely overrated, filled to the brim with cookie-cutter ideologies, and stereotypical tropes that make it no different than a standard, by-the-books and completely safe show that squanders any unique potential that it has.
I should also clarify that this is about Season 1. I have yet to expose myself to Season 2 or 3, but I’m not sure why I would want to considering how much I dislike Season 1. It’s not like I’m going to sit through 24 MORE episodes of something after painstakingly grueling my way through the first set of 24, in the hopes that it gets better somewhere down the line.
However, a lot of people have pointed out that the show not only improves, but a lot of the issues I raise are actually clarified in the later seasons, so I am willing to give them a watch for the sake of creating a review. In the same fashion as this review, I will be approaching it completely unbiased, and giving my fair and honest criticism, so make sure you stick around for a review of Season 2 and Season 3 coming soon!

The best part was when Commander Erwin just charged in and basically yoloed a charged resulting in the loss of his arm. Also Eren putting other titans in joint locks. Some of the death scenes were actually so overplayed it seemed like a parody and I laughed so hard on some of them.

I love how in the beginning everyone was saying that aot was overrated and bad, but now season 3 part 2 is rated the second best anime on MyAnimeList.

Some people donot like complicated stories. You have to be spoon fed of what the story is going to revolve about in the first scene of first episode. This ( except the titans) somehow touches the cruel side of humans. Most of the people who will hate on this show would be those who don’t like gore. It doesn’t mean that the story is bad

And a little question: the guys who are saying "SnK is garbage" have at least watched all the 3 season (since literally the last 4 episodes explain literally everything happened before and during s1 and s2) and read the manga till the last chapter (chapter 120)? Because if you guys have done none of this things you have no right to judge this series (also even gigguk confirmed that this series is good right a video ago, so you don’t have escuses anymore)

He saw his mother eaten
He got his leg bitten off and was swallowed
Found out Annie was the female titan
Battled Reiner and Bertholdt
Got kidnapped multiple times
Found out his father forcefully took a titans power
Almost got eaten by Historia
Had to go back to his hometown which was destroyed
Got the flung on top of the wall
Saw his friend almost burnt to death
Had to see Armin turned into a titan and eat Bertholdt
He also found out that there was not freedom beyond the walls but instead enemys
And you call him a whiny bitch? Who wouldn’t be like that after all that shit (except for Levi) because just about anyone who has a fucked up life like that would be the exact same. So why dont you go see you mother eaten by a titan then get swallowed yourself. Go and have 3 close friends of yours turn out to be the enemy and fight them. Man this didn’t age well. And a side note on Eren, I completely disagree. Eren only ever won a single, maybe two fights in all of season 1, that being his fight with Annie at the end of the season. And even THAT he didn’t win alone, Annie would’ve got away had Mikasa not cut her off the wall.

I wouldn’t call it garbage, but a dumb show overall. My main problems:
Avarage main characters with close to 0 character development
Pretty basic story, so the author needs to create shock moments and mysteries to keep the people interested
They never give any proper explanation for these misteries, the answer is always magic or just because. How convenient.
And now the last season, they even killed the only good character and it’s turning into a generic war story.
There are tons of outright stupid things besides these especially in season 3.

I think attack on titan is to depressing because there are almost no light haerted moments and all the characters are
Just saying how bad the world is, and the manga makes me think there is not going to be a GOOD ending

The whole thing with differences between the Japanese dub and the English one…
The Japanese version you’ve watched is the original broadcast version. That is a normal practice in the anime industry. Studios are on very tight deadlines so sometimes (quite often, actually) they give the TV network an "unfinished" version of the episodes. Sometimes (more rarely nowadays) those episodes get "fixed" for the blu-ray release which is a very premium product in Japan.
