Oh, wow. Thank you. I’m Jewish but I read both the Old and New Testament when I was little just to be familiar with both aspects of the Bible, but I didn’t remember what book it was. So thank you for responding and letting me know that info. 😀

Ah, just upon seeing this trailer have I wanted to watch Evangelion. I need to go finish it, I’m on episode 13 or 14 (can’t remember), but I’ve been watching other animes as well. I think that we need more anime nowadays that goes back to its roots and becomes like Evangelion. So far the only anime I can think of that are considered Evangelion-esque for their genres are Revolutionary Girl Utena (Shoujo) and Puella Magi Madoka Magica (currently being called Magical Girl genre’s Evangelion).

What about the claims that the director made this in-spite of fans, as a sort of. if I may use the phrase "middle finger" to the fans.

Destroy All Monsters. Along with Battle Angel Alita and Gunhed, it was just three awesome trailers before an awesome, if horribly dubbed, Godzilla movie.

It’s really tough for me to say which series I like better because I’m almost done with the series and it’s great I started with the rebuild series tho. I do like all movies but the first two were the best the third one was ok but this show blew me away I’m nearly done I have about less than 5 episodes left I’d say and it’s been a really good show. I also recall seeing this in my "destroy all monsters" VHS by adv so I’m glad I found this and brung back memories also there was a "gunhed" trailer I have seen that too it’s not bad but lack of plot but this trailer brung back many memories

"Because Christianity is an uncommon religion in Japan, we thought it would be mysterious. None of the staff… are Christians… we just thought the visual symbols of Christianity look cool. If we had known the show would get distributed in the US and Europe, we might have rethought that choice."

Even if I don’t like NGE, up to this day I haven’t seen a movie (or series) trailer with so much energy in it and so nicely combined with music.

Ok here goes. I want to watch Evangelion but do not have the time to watch 26 episodes.

Would I be better served watching Death & Rebirth followed up by End of Evangelion OR should I watch 1.11, 2.22, and 3.33?

I saw this trailer on the VHS Digimon (2000) when I was a kid—7 years old at the time. I always remembered this trailer because of how cool and great it made this anime look.
I didn’t watch EVA until about 11 years later, and I didn’t even realize this trailer I always liked was EVA until today. It’s kind of amazing how my childhood and my older self kind of wrapped themselves together.

@KineticRuler I’ve watched both just recently and … it’s Evangelion the series + End of Evangelion. It stands far above anything I ever saw. Full Metal Alchemist is good but Evangelion is exeptional, one of it’s kind. I cannot describe it any better. You just have to see it and try to understand it, really 🙂 World would be a better place if everybody could see it just once i think 🙂

ah, love the quote at the beginning of the trailer. "If their purpose is of human origin, it will fail. But if it comes from God… You cannot defeat them." Heh, well having finally finished watching this anime, I can say this. You know what Seele says: If you can’t defeat them, become one with them via Instrumentality. 😀

    Well… I mean… that’s just like uh… your opinion man.
Props for giving it credit where its due though, as it most certainly is a must see of the 90’s, considering how influential it was/is to other anime.

So here’s what I basically do: I show this trailer to my friends- and then tell them to give their best guess as to what the storyline is.
They never do come close at all…

Although I won’t say call NGE the best show ever (I can name better mech animes, let alone other shows), it does deserve credit for it’s influence on modern anime and it’s memorability (even if some of that memorability is for the wrong reasons). Is NGE good? Yes. Is as good as people say it is? No. A definite must-see for 90’s anime.

This is my favorite interpretation of why the events began in evangelion. The canonical version that says that everything started because the aliens made a mistake takes away much mysticism. And is silly.

I saw this exact trailer on ADV’s release of Robotech (yes, I know it’s a bastardized version of Macross) when I was very young. I didn’t get it at the time, of course, but it, combined with Robotech, forever made me fascinated by mecha, but also dramatic anime. I don’t know If it’s just me, but I think this may have been an important part of my childhood. Or maybe I’m just being randomly nostalgic, who knows. Either way, NGE is awesome, and it’s probably the best mecha anime ever.

Destroy all monsters led me to this beautiful anime. Just finished the 26th and final episode and have to say, without considering the final 2 episodes because they are quite boring, this show was absoulutely fabulous. 10/10. Action. Emotion. Characters. Its got it all. Definitely recommended to all.

I’ve been watching clips from "A Clockwork Orange" all day, and all I can imagine is Malcolm Mcdowell screaming "It’s a sin!" with his eyes pried open by the Ludovico machine. For some reason, it fits.

Have you watched End of Evangelion? If not then I highly reccommend you do. It acts as a "true" ending to the series, basically taking the place of the last two episodes of the series. They ran out of funds and that’s the main reason why episodes 25 and 26 were so strange, when they had the proper cash to do so they made End of Eva. It is what I believe to be the proper ending to the series. Whenever I rewatch Eva I always just skip those episodes and watch EoE.

Oh is it now? Makes sense, considering how Anno practically plagued this anime and in essense the rest of the animeverse with Kabbalistic and Gnostic imagery and biblical apocrypha. Not that we don’t love him for that. ;D So which part of the Bible is it in? Old or New testament or neither. Can you tell me the chapter and verse. 🙂

@IZEASGT i counter-propose that this is untrue. As much as i dislike Pokemon, of course it had a huge social and commercial impact, and spawned a series of clones and variations, but as a anime per se it’s quite risible, while Evangelion, liked or not, at the time really had created a line, between the animes PREevangelion and POSTevangelion. Putting aside its clones, the concepts, style of direction, tropes, the different quality standard for a non OVA series, can be seen in tons of other anime from that moment on, till today.
