Dragon Quest Builders 2 Review
Dragon Quest Builders 2 Review
Today we have a review of Dragon Quest Builders 2 for your viewing pleasure. You might be wondering how this is possible, and it’s thanks to the Japanese version which hit late December 2018. I’ve put in more than 55 hours into the game and absolutely loved it! I hope the North American and European version gets a confirmed release date soon because you should all check this bad boy out.

I honestly think I’m going to prefer 1 when it’s all said and done.
I feel like much of the complexity added in this game takes away from the simplicity I enjoyed in the first one, like the combat being focused on a party instead of just you. It just looks like this game has too much stuff in it to muddle the balance of building-exploring-fighting that the first one nailed.
Last but not least, the framerate looks ABYSMAL. The first one is a smooth 60 when docked with rare drops, it plays like a dream; why is this one so badly optimized? It looks virtually identical to the first one, not many graphical improvements!
I don’t care about multiplayer. I don’t know… I’ll probably get it but I have a feeling the first one is more my style and it’s also actually optimized.

Do the villagers repair your town back to the way you had it built if monsters attack? In the first game I was always annoyed at having to rebuild the walls after the sieges.

You cite BotW at 2 hrs, but I got 3 minimum. So I’ll get 3 minimum from this one. Which isn’t great, but it’ll do.

Great review, very professional! For someone just getting into the series do you recommend waiting to play this or just playing 1?

good review, thanks! can you confirm that the performance issues you described here are unique to the switch version, or might they also be present in the ps4 version? i was leaning toward getting this for switch, too, but ps4 remains an option if there’s little difference in that regard.

There are issues in the PS4 version also where having too many buildings causes the game to lag. This is personally the only negative I can detect and hopefully they are able to fix this. Otherwise, I really love this game! Can’t wait for the release!

Fucking hell, I cannot wait for this.
Thanks for the review, dude. Cleared up a lot of worries I’ve had.
One of the only things that bug me is that we still don’t get a full character editor lol

They didnt add a block mechanic to the combat? literally 0/10 that was the only flaw with the first game other than ceilings clipping into frame but thats another story

Wish they just made it like a seamless open world or at least remove the chapters and let us go back to old islands with our stuff

I like the sound of infinite resources. The first one did that a bit with rooms that would encourage your villagers to make items but you would get a lot of waste items.

Minecraft

FYI, the game has now had a release date set for July 12, 2019. So just over 5 months to go.

Is the "free build" area available from the start? In the first game, you had to beat Chapter 1 before it unlocked.

How does the online co-op work? I’m struggling to understand. Are there servers? or do you have your own world but then there’s a multiplayer world? or do you just join one persons world? is it the ‘full’ experience in co-op still?

What I want to know is. Can you name rooms and name a room for your hero and NOT have others go in and sleep. Because it wasn’t working on the first for me.

I did NOT like Dragon Quest Builders 1 and for many of the reasons which are no longer an issue in nr 2 judging from your review HOWEVER the frame rate issues as can be seen in your video make me NOT want to buy it. I am going to sit and wait to see if it gets fixed first.

Im dying for this game, and if I didnt have bills to pay, I’d consider the digital Japanese version. That comes out to like.. $80ish and that’s a lot to pay for a game I cant even read.

I like this review very much but really not a fan of reviews that visually show late or end game content, when I saw that armor and you riding the vehicle at the end I stopped… kind of take away some elements of surprise/freshness to new players.

The way you talk about this makes it seem like the best building game to date! And yes, i did not like minecraft, but enjoy portal knights fairly well

Can you play local multiplayer on Switch on one screen? I haven’t been able to figure out if it has split or one screen play for 2 players. Thanks.

Does it have a quest log? Felt lost at times without textual context that was easily accessible in the first game
