Strictly speaking, improvised weapons are considered to have a thrown range by default (20/60 i believe), so 1d6 thrown bludgeoning isnt all that far off from official. (Granted, as a DM, id probably let the player decide, upon acquiring a shield, if they want the d6, and have it be throwable, or the d8 and be beholdent to the "it takes an action to don/doff a shield," rule. Seems fair for a lighter, held shield, vs a heavier one with straps).

*Goofy Goof*
A [custom lineage] fighter (with levels in barbarian) and captain of Disney Castle’s Royal Knights. Though he’s clumsy and not necessarily the sharpest knife in the drawer, his loyalty to his friends is unmatched. Rather than a proper weapon, he wields his shield as a weapon, even throwing it like a frisbee, or rather, a boomerang.

If I were to rework this build a bit, I think I would add 1-3 levels of Barbarian to get a bit more classic Donald in there. Rage when you’re low on spell slots, save healing for outside of battle, I think you could make it work okay despite the restrictions

They need to come out with official Shield Fighting rules where you use a shield as a weapon and not an improvised weapon.

Kingdom hearts 1 play through list Donald is not allowed to use offensive magic, he’s my support so he has to save MP for aero and cure (yes he is pretty efficient unlike people say, you just have to know how to set him up). Therefore also give him a lot of MP/Defense equipment. As long he is alive he’ll often have plenty of MP to even cast aero on me just because. He’s allowed to do physical attacks when he has nothing to do with his MP so:
Regular attacks – Constantly
Offensive magic – Occasionally
Defensive magic – Constantly
Advanced magic – Occasionally
Goofy is also a support and his purpose is to protect me, so he has to use those shield techinques. Also on the abilities I took off all his special attacks so he wont waste MP, and gave him MP Gift (Also all the abilities related to regenerating MP). With this special and with the Support Actions set to constantly, EVERYTIME you get low on MP, Goofy will sacrifice his own to give you more. While you dont get MP Gift you can improvise with Evolution.
Regular attacks – Constantly
Special Attacks – Occasionally
Shield Techniques – Constantly
Support Actions – Constantly

My one complaint: Goofy DOES use magic, though it’s more subtle until used in team attacks, which makes all his attacks magical, though very subtly. Other than that, very fitting builds.

I never realized how much I needed this build until it came out. My guess is on Lv 20 Custom LIneage or Kenku evocation wizard for Donald and Battlemaster Fighter with a spellcaster dip for 1-3 levels (for his limit attacks like Whirli-Goof) for Goofy.

The number of times I’ve been INSTANTLY healed the moment I hit red flashy flashy, not to mention giving me aero, is honestly too many to count, and that’s just in KH1.

A word on the "donald doesn’t heal good" line.
with the addition of one of the donald medals in KHUX, the update text describing the new medal to hype it up said "he won’t heal you here, either".
in other words, THE DEVS KNEW THAT DONALD HAD A REPUTATION FOR BEING AN INCOMPETENT HEALER, and embraced it as part of the character.
