I think most people can admit they like the aincrad arc but since alfheim is part of season 1 it makes it very hard
I personally Like Fatal Bullet the game over the anime, because it makes Kirito a famous MMO player while also not making him the main character so he gets to stay broken but not in every moment taking away tension, he’s that guy that tried to kill you on your first day only to stop because the thing he wanted got locked to your account and instead goes “hey you are pretty cool wanna join my friend group” which when you are level 1 is winning the lottery which makes perfect sense as every single person in GGO knows you as the luckiest player in the whole game for Earning 0.01% drop on your first day of playing the game, it also adapts GGO better because this time everyone is already in the game and knows Sinon from SAO, the weird shit with her friend still happens plus Death Gun but I choose to ignore that as its really not important to the overall story of you a new player making a name for yourself in a world of celebrities

I enjoyed SAO far more back when I was a kid. I ate up the second arc too. Nowadays, I look back on the Aincrad arc with a “that was aight” and don’t think about the rest. The abridged is hilarious though. My only regret is that I got the first two light novels. Those are permanently entombed on my manga shelf which I hardly touch anymore.

I would definitely say it was the premise of the story and the art style that really got me hooked into the show, besides its flaws I enjoyed the show for what it was and for its concept.

sword art online got me interested in anime so it will always be special to me. Sure the later seasons got…a little crazy, but it’s anime, and that’s what it does.

It was the best, for the first five episodes. Immediately after that point or perhaps before the entire plot becomes filled to brim with fallacies, comically avoidable scenarios and characters who serve no other purpose than to move the plot forward. Everyone loves SAO abridged specifically because it took writing as awful as SAO’s and made it both coherent and enjoyable.

SAO, for its genre, isn’t badly written at all. Bad stories don’t magically become worldwide phenomena. And no matter how sophisticated anitubers think they are, their opinion isn’t worth more than a newcomer’s because entertainment will always be subjective.

I always loved SAO. Then I realized there was a second part to the 1st season. I cried after watching it. It ruined my summer. Why? Why make it so garbage?
They ruined everything good about it, Kirito’s identity as a beta tester gave him a special status and he was just edgy without it, Asuna’s personality was nonexistent due to her barely even being on screen, and then there’s the creepy and weird stuff with the sister/cousin and rich fiancé drama.
I started to like it a bit more after the gun stuff because it was new and had the same feel to SAO’s feeling but it just fell apart for me as it gradually lost its charm. SAO started amazing, but it just lost any worth after so many bad decisions.

I was just mad, cause it started with this cool ass concept but half way through it showed you what 9 of the 75 fuckin’ floors they coulda made 2 seasons out of that skipped maybe 8 floors and it woulda been so much better than “I’m in love with my brother type shit”

Sword Art was one of the first anime I had ever watched, and I LOVED IT. I loved the characters, the premise, and I wanted to be Kirito SO BAD. Then everything changed when the Gigguk video (& my balls) dropped. After that I started to look at all of my shows a lot more critically. Admittedly I have turned into a lot more of a cynical person, yet I have been able to take another look at some media and get an entirely different perspective on it.

Before I watch this vid, I just want to say that THEY NEVER SHOULD’VE LEFT AINCRAD!!!
It’s called “Sword Art Online” for a reason. It’s literally the setting of the story, the name of the show, where most of the BEST elements take place in, etc.
When you remove the “Sword Art Online” aspect and core, it’s bound to be as flimsy as it is now.
Fortunately, however, their doing a remake involving Asuna’s perspective which will feature and focus on all 100 floors as opposed to just…… 20 of them. 😅

The original and the Elfhame arcs were decent. OK, the basic concept of the Elfhame arc was decent. But yeah the execution and details of that arc were rather cringe. Though, it did have some extremely satisfying moments. Everything after that was just generic meh that was based on pure stupidity and holding onto the Idiot Ball ™ for as long as possible.

Could you imagine if SAO would have stretched out the first 12 episodes into at least 3 or 4 seasons? We jump from floor 1 to 79 or some shit in 12 episodes. What happened for the rest of the show? How did kirito get his black sword? When did Asuna decide to become a chef? When did Kline found a guild? So much that’s just skipped over with such good plot potential.

The best?? It was good, first time being put in a game became a part of the issekai idea(I think); but the best? Over all? Fuckin JoJo came out in 2012 so that alone makes sao not the best of that year
But I can’t really judge it since I never finished the first season, fell off after they got married in the game. Came back for alicization (the first part) and that was pretty good though

SAO is and has always been bottom barrel garbage, it does Anime a service in that it allows people an entry point to enter the anime sphere, but it is by no means good. Plenty of other anime did the same concept and executed it better. The series breaks it’s own logic fairly consistently and repeatedly, with genuinely terrible writing and set up. Again it did do a service, but there is absolutely no way, no possible way anyone can truly justify SAO being good or comparable to other anime like One Piece, Naruto, DBZ, Jujutsu Kaisin, Cowboy Bebop, the .hack// franchise, Trigun, MyHero, One Punch Man, Attack on Titan, the Gundam Franchise, Code Geass, Inyuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho, etc. the list goes on. It looks okay, sometimes, but good art and animation does not make a good anime, good writing does which this series lacks in abundance. It is a good “its so fucking bad its good” anime, in which I would agree that in that respect I can see why people would watch it, in an ironic sense.
But no one has any genuine argument to suggest that SAO was an actually good series. If that is a hill people are willing to die on, than I am sorry that you have not seen enough good anime to correctly identify what is or is not a good series. That is not an insult to anyone’s intelligence, but merely that I would strongly recommend actually going and watching more anime to better acquaint yourself with what good and tasteful writing actually is.

Man if only this anime stayed 10 years old! lmao I loved SAO when it first dropped. It meet all the hype during the first arc. I even still get feels watching highlights from the first episodes. Kirito was a always a cringe character but it did not matter as much back then. After the first run the anime just did not hold up.

I really wish there’s a remake, where they take inspiration from other successful isekais, and change some elements to make an enitrely new experience.
I personally love the grind we can see, because it makes the potential we felt of a character become real, and we get an actual sense of what that character is like, and how strong they are. It’s like there’s dark spots in SAO, and we’re never really shown the extent of the potential of 100 unique floors.
