Not sure why you picked sound design then described music and dialogue. There’s no sound design at all in the soundtrack, it’s all acoustic instruments to reflect the rural feel. Sound Design isn’t just an edgy term for ‘all of the audio’. Yuru Camp is the shit though. Most comfy I’ve ever felt watching an anime.

I wonder how many people watched it because they accidentally read it as "Yuri Camp"

Like is an understatement! I have been following this series for about 9 months now, and my god, every second of it has been pure joy! It is a 10/10 in my book! Shimarin best girl! I got 2 wall scrolls, I have pre-ordered Nendroids and other goodies!

You bring up a great point with this video! It’s always tough to recommend a lot of the anime I watch because my pitch ultimately boils down to "well, these girls uh, live their lives and it’s fun." We have to really thank Japan for offering such a unique take on media; with giving us the gift of slice of life and iyashikei. The only equivalent genre in Western media I can think of are… sitcoms.

Great vid with comparing this anime with the theme of simplicity and how it accomplishes just that.
Even though this anime follows a very simple story line; about high school girls going camping. The anime did a great job bringing good visuals with an interesting group of girls that developed new bonds of friendship and a deeper bond for camping.

I have a love hate relationship with slice of life anime, sometimes I love them and other times I just can’t stand them. Most of the time I just don’t even bother but when one does draw me in it’s usually the theme or the characters that does it, which makes sense given the nature of slice of life. Yuru Camp just never really did it for me, I’m not 100% sure why but most of the slice of life that start and end at cute girls doing cute things just end up boring me (Lucky Star being the only exemption that comes to mind, and I put that completely in the hands of my love for Konata).

Tanaka-kun is always listless was so good! I understand the point you’re trying to make- shows that are just simple and make you feel good are entirely needed.

I avoid watching this anime before I go to sleep because I might doze off halfway through. NOT saying that the anime is boring, it’s because it’s just so chill, TOO chill. I love it

Laid-back Camp is solid but lacks the finesse of Non Non Biyori or Nichijo imo. The pinecones took me out of the experieince if anything.

Aw shit I kind of totally forgot how good the music was! It sort of blends and fits so well when I’m watching but I can’t really remember what it sounds like after the fact.

Just now noticing, the girl with the glasses– her front bangs are tucked in front of her glasses. Yuck, that would feel so weird, and looks weird too.

This video is silly, uninspired, and shows a fundamental lack of understanding toward how Slice of Life anime works.

Yuru Camp is tied for my favorite anime this season. You really ca(m)ptured the appeal of the show and anime as a whole. My spirit has been re-kindled to go enjoy watching more anime and experience feelings of conTENT with some slice of life series.

For me Yuru Camp is the best healing anime since the last season of Hidamari Sketch ended and exactly what the doctor ordered before you go to sleep.

Honestly, the simpler a show is, the more i’m content to watch it. When you have such a simplistic plot entertaining the viewer is harder, and that allows forms of creativity that is needed to keep the view interested. And those ideas to keep them entertained wouldn’t have been done with some kind of action packed plot lmao.

I think what helps is that it’s pretty educational too. With the narrator giving important information about how to pitch a tent or which stove would be best for which situation. It really is the little things that stand out the most. Like Rin messing with the dogs on the leesh, one just out of reach but the other long enough to tackle her. Or when Rin and Nodeshiko exchange texts each showing the landscape of where they are at the moment. Camping separately but still together in spirit.

I feel that what you are describing is the entire "iyashikei" genre which essentially the art of doing fuck all because you have no worries. Stuff like Flying Witch and Barakamon are the more palatable picks from this genre while Aria and Natsume’s Book of Friends stand more as classics. Enjoy!
