I’d never complain with Takasashi about consistency. I’d rather change the other artists style than change his

I have noticed how the character art differs from the Toriyama type style to modern Dragonball. I’m not a super critical person when it comes to this but I hope they clean up a bit. Not that these art frames are bad, their god tier honestly but I hope they just stick to a style.

Honestly, besides Ajay and some massive animation fans(which are a minority of DB fanbade) , I am pretty sure everyone would prefer a more stable and badass designs from the buu saga instead of those “jely soft Goku” . This is DB, it’s supposed to look badass, not just beautiful and creative art choices, fuck that we need buu saga consistent designs back

Bardock with the bandana is CANON, it appeared in the original Toriyama manga.
If Bardock does not appear in defense of the Planet Vegeta then this film, like DB Minus moreover, will be inconsistent with the original manga.

I like all personal takes, even takahashi’s, on the overall new yet retro approach to DB. Beautiful all over, really stoked

I get why you are a little afraid of Takahashi’s part to be too out of the movie desing, because it will, i think at least. But after i found your channel, i started to watch Super differently, and i started to see the problems and the good parts. Also, i started to appriciate the animation of One Punch Man. At first, i didnt get why it has some shots, or whole scenes with almost completaly different style, but now i love them. I love them, because i know it is the same thing, but with a different approach, and it is really pleasing to me to see amazing closeups, or even scenes with amazing detail and scenes with only the really minimal desing right after the detailed one. I hope i will be like this with this movie also.

Japan is known for their weird taste in 3D/CG art direction. They like the idea of blending cartoony looking characters with realistic looking environment. Just look at Jump Force for example, for me personally that shit looks terrible visually and aesthetically.

Oh cool, just nonchalantly spoil the fact that Gogeta is in the movie. I’ve been literally only watching the trailers and your animation breakdowns until the movie comes out. Guess I can’t trust you, either.

I think the CG criticism isn’t really an issue.
Toriyama loves to draw extremely detailed machines, his images such as Goku on the Motorcycle shows a stunning level of intricacies. Something he probably would’ve injected into the Manga if he had given more time. The soft, basic textured character models and the complex machines fit his overall style in this as well.
I wouldn’t call it jarring, I’d call it faithful.

I don’t have problems with takahashi part, it is great to have the best artist in DBS. The problem is the freaking CGI in the movie (Goku vs Broly in the first trailer)

Takahashi’s design brings this lovely fierceness to the characters and I LOVE IT. I am, however, not a fan of having those minimal shading and rounded face characters in my action scenes. They are soft looking and it kills the intense protrayaIs I like to see from my characters when they are deeply engaged in their fights. I am plenty happy with the new designs everywhere except during the fighting scenes.
Takahashi’s design might be a departure from the new design but it is best suited for bringing out the intensity of the characters expressions as they fight

Toriyama has always had super detailed vehicles in his work, just look at the manga covers from the original Dragon Ball, you will see Goku or Bulma riding a hyper realistic sci-fi vehicle. This is exactly Toriyama’s style.

I get that Toriyama went with the full100% copy of Superman original with Minus, but honestly Fuck that , Bardock is only a fan favorite due to how badass he is in his movies , and people clearly adored the idea of him being the Legendary super saiyan from the past, FighterZ proved that as well, this take on bardock seems too light, I hope they at least show a bit of his fight vs frieza(that is cannon right?) and wearing the bandana, those two things made him a badass

I’m a simple man. I see an Ajay breakdown video, I click like. I agree with you on Takahashi’s part, is the Broly close up also him? ’cause if it was then I did like that one but the Vegeta one caused on me the same impression you had reminding me of Buu arc Yamamuro and it did feel kinda jarred consistency wise.

I’m 99% sure takahashi’s style is gonna be used the most for fighting and intense action scenes
————————————
And I’m not too sure here but I think
The other artists style is gonna be for calmer and less visually important scenes like whis and goku and beerus eating, bulma just wandering about etc

I don’t like toriyama’s present style much. He toned down on intensity of his drawings a bit too much. My overall issue with Dragon Ball minus is his new art style and Bardock. Bardock no longer seems like he has that intensity he use to. I’m not sure because I’ve stayed far away from Minus just in case they ever decided to animate it and most of the news revolving this movies, but I can’t really see Bardock still having the ability to see the future of his imminent demise (especially because in the trailer he seems to be deducing that Freeza is up to something instead of straight up knowing)…and that was a really cool aspect of the History of Bardock. Not only did he see his death, but he also saw his son facing offf one on one against Freeza. That’s probably the closest he’ll ever get seeing his son in glorious action. It’s nice seeing Gine and all, but I don’t think anyone wants to see a Bardock without any memorable qualities. Who knows though…maybe they’ll surprise us with something.
