The title is misleading seeing as you’re including folklore alongside mythology… I would personally give each their own list, as there are differences between the two.

Watchmojo… watchmojo. Do you know how many years I’ve been searching for Magic Boy "Shonen Sarutobi Sasuke"…. I watched it once on Sci-Fi when I was 5, I am now 28. All I could remember was a boy who gets trained by an old master on a mountain to seek revenge and save his mother or sister from some bandits. I thought I dreamed the film up, that it wasn’t real and there it was in Honourable mentions. Thank you

No Pom Poko? It’s Ghibli, but not actually directed by MIyazaki, so it was valid.

I like "Princess Mononoke", especially for being the one non-preachy, non-over-simplistic eco-parable out there (James Cameron could learn a lot from it…). The only thing I don’t really like in it that everyone else seems to is the "titular" character. I don’t think Miyazaki really intended San to be all that "admirable" of a character, but just to put a human face on the spirits. She’s as prejudiced and hate-filled as the rest of them.
