Man, Golden Kamuy is starting to feel a little like homework, because I wasn’t sure if we had met some of the characters in this episode, or if they were introduced earlier, so I had to look some of them up online. Still like the show, though.
Also, big shock, I know, but Hinamatsuri is still great, and the fact that we only have one episode left is really making me sad.

I’m so glad that I watched LOGH cuz I’m loving it cuz I wanted to watch it but wasn’t sure if it was a remake or not. I’m really digging it with all the characters and setting up, it’s like a more intricate mind game version of code geass. Thanks Kirran for getting me on bored

Megalo Box: I love how Fujimaki set it up himself with his constant comparing Nanbu to a Scorpion and saying Nanbu couldn’t change his nature. I personally knew what he was referring to because I’d heard the story of the Scorpion and the Frog, but then he spelled it out last episode. I got ecstatic, however, when I started researching to find out if they were building up character symbolism for Nanbu’s inevitable betrayal of Fujimaki.
So there’s animal symbolism all over the show. Joe and Yuri are Dogs. Aragaki has the Butterfly symbolising rebirth or a new chapter in life. I’ve already gone on about how they peg Nanbu as the scorpion. Fujimaki is a snake. It’s obvious, but yeah he’s represented by the snake evidenced by his tattoo. Now the reason that this is brilliant is that when you look up the origins of the Scorpion story you learn that there are earlier versions where the Scorpion doesn’t doom itself to death by stinging his ride, and in particular there’s a version where the Scorpion has the frog ferry him across a river…. Where he stings a snake to prevent it from biting a sleeping/drunk man! Intentionally or not the creators of Megalo Box managed to portray the story of the Scorpion accurately even if it was to a different version of the story than the one Fujimaki told, and it’s even borne out when Fujimaki says to Nanbu: "You picked the wrong man to sting."
That acknowledgement pushed me over the damn edge it was just SO GOOD.

I’m glad you’re into LoGH already because this is still the weak part of the series, it gets soo much better later on 😀 Most people agree that the OVA’s first season is amazing but the series becomes godlike with its 2nd season which will be season3 of this remake (right after the movies which are considered 2nd season) The original OVA is IMO one of the very few shows that kept getting better and better with every season to eventually end on such a high note it becomes instant favorite.

I love how the yakuza guys just start playing along with the whole Nitta interview. It’s literally just fucking hilarious. Who would have ever thought that I could watch a show where Yakuza members are not only funny but I genuinely enjoy seeing them.

Im just going to say, about what Scott thinks of Megalobox, although I love the fights, how he feels can also be seen in Ashita no Joe, I mean AnJ doesn’t even have boxing until 15 eps in which may surprise some. In the end AnJ and Megalobox are both very character-driven stories.

Honestly, guys – the reason people get involved in any organized crime is the camaraderie. They feel, for whatever reason, that normal social circles are closed to them, whereas the gangs or the yakuza or whatever greet them with open arms.
That said, the Yakuza actually keeps the faith with their guys a bit better. I wonder if that’s because they’ve got a monopoly on organized crime, or if it’s the Japanese culture vs Western culture. (Over here we’ve got gangs every few blocks in some of the nastier areas, so a lot of the recruits die in inter-gang strife…the Yakuza’s basically got a monopoly on organized crime in Japan.)

so hinamatsuri ending next episode, I’ve been reading the manga and THIS IS THE PERFECT time for it too end not because Hinamatsuri is crap but because if a next season happens (We must pray) the starting off point is there is really no better time. Some things happen and they are significant and i won’t spoil anything even though i want too.
although for the DVD release i want there to be 2 OVA episodes 1 of Nitta’s potery Cottage in the mountains and the other of Anzu’s school test run.

Dang Hitomi’s arc was just short of getting to the best parts… season 2 when because the next episode will probably adapt up to right before Florida… but Florida is comedy gold… dang it, why do you tease stuff from after the time skip when you aren’t at least adapting up to the time skip… oh well I suppose Hitomi will just have to have to start her conquest another day… season 2 when?

I think out of all the characters in Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Andrew Fork (or Falk in the remake I think) is one of the more universally hated characters. They did an amazing job making Fork a terrible, and yet equally incompetent, person.
It felt good to hear you guys rant about him. And I’m also happy that you’re all so into LOGH, and I hope you guys actually try the OVAs at a later time.

Also, I wonder if these guys have been paying attention to the Opening and Endings for Hinamatsuri? Things keep changing. After the episode where Utako turns Nitta down after their date, she stops appearing beside him in the last few seconds of the opening as Hina approaches him on the riverbank. And then when Hina leaves or goes missing, she’s not standing beside Nitta in the ending credits. Or sitting beside him in the bar for the credits. At the end of episode 11 she was completely absent from the end credits. Also, Utako disappeared from behind Hitomi in the opening credits, too. Normally Utako’s in the background as the camera pans up on Hitomi in her bar uniform preparing a drink, but after episode 10 Utako’s missing. She’s also missing from the end credits in that full cast scene at the bar. She’s suppose to be behind the bar, but it’s only Hitomi manning things.
