Actually this is the best arc of the SAO series IMO. if you read the afterword of the novel the 1-6 book (aincrad-GGO) is written in 2009 (actually it’s more like 2006/7 it’s written in the afterword of the first novel) until GGO finished in 2010.
The Alicization series started in 2012-2016 (over 9 Book) THIS is the Meat of the SAO series, the more mature and experienced Reki Kawahara, much better storywriting, plot progression ETC and better there is no more Harem. Basically all the mistake he’s done when he just started is mostly fixed here.

No worries, this is not the actual artstyle for the animation.
And I just hope they make this a 1:1 adaption from the LN.
Alicization is fantastic and probably the best arc for SAO to date.
