I am confused. Did you enjoy this episode or not?
In my opinion, it was a good episode. It is true the second half isn’t so impactful as first half, maybe because they decided to cut after release that super magic laser or whatever it was. I enjoy when Alicization is Alicization, when characters have their drama and have personal conflicts. I think Kawahara took this path of a war because he feels his novels lacked more fights. I don’t know.

Listening to Gamerturk’s opinions really reminds me of how much of a battle freak I am instead of a detailed story analyzer. But opposites attract, subscribe 4ever. I have started to "read" the light novels even though reading comprehension is my worst attribute. Btw, am I the one who thinks that the bird symbol (on Renly’s double wing blades) look a lot like the Fairy Tail Mark?

Wow I didn’t know what the detail of Renly’s hand was bleeding nice attention.
Overall, it’s a mix bag episode ~ an okay episode. Love the first half with Renly, the second half was okay but no weight like episode 4. The build up as you mention was aniclimax.

A really accurate explaination as usual , i kinda agree with your opinion, feels likes SAO is missing something. Still i’m enjoying these episodes cuz to me the storyline of Alicization is sooo much better than the original SAO and GGO. But yeah, hope that they will do something with the anime in the second half of Alicization war of underworld to prevent it becoming a "powerpoint slideshow" you could say XD

imo I think they should’ve made Renri’s past just like how they adapted Desolbert’s past: in blurry first person. Showing it to us in their person makes it look like he remembered, which can be confusing.

For the animation style change we can only blame the director change in ordinal scale. Up to the second season was directed by Tomohiko Ito. They changed it to Manabu Ono in ordinal scale and stuck to the same guy for alicization. If you look at Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, his previous work, you can catch the similarities in style pretty well. Well it was madhouse in it’s golden days when he directed it so it kinda worked, even for a weekly anime show.

Sword Art Online and Fate GO are very different comparing apples and oragnes is not fair. Also Fate GO has more budget than SAO, SAO didn’t have cash bringer game like Fate GO.
SAO needs a bigger budget in order to make better scenes. I like current animation and fight scenes.

yeah i agree with you about that it lost creativity it now turn to shooting beam of energy or fire or explosion everywhere it kinda get boring .-. but the double winged blade fight scene was so awesome i prefer that kind of action scene more than umm boom! light! boom! fire! boom! flower! or something like that

I couldn’t agree with you more in regards to animation of the fight scenes. I’ve re-watched those brief seconds of Renly’s more than any fight scene in Alicization thus far, with the maybe the exception of the Kirito vs Fanantio fight scene. The only other fights from this arc worth mentioning where Kirito vs the Goblins, and that GGO battle sequence in episode one, and Sinon vs Subtilizer But overall, all of Alicization fight scene pale in compare from all the fights from S1, S2 OD movie and even the GGO spin off. I will take creative and fluid fight choreography over fancy details in character design and light shows any day.

Interesting how lil Alice has taken the OP main character role from the black swordsman but the way the series has developed her is fascinating based on the title I predict that The upcoming episode is going to traumatize her flushing out more of her character as she finally experienced what Kirito experienced helping her understand him better

15:14 To be fair, a series of character reactions seems unnecessary to me. Actions speak louder than expressions, and something as clearly huge and powerful as Alice’s attack doesn’t need shocked faces to show its magnitude imo (also, I really liked the ending shot of Alice).
17:47 Unfortunately, what you’re saying seems like it makes sense. Generally, when art style/detail goes up, the animation level goes down unless the studio is lucky enough to have time on their side.

I will say I have yet to receive a desire to rewatch any of the episodes this season. I watched kono suba for the first time and Im on my second watch through just because of the art direction and creativity is so well done for me.

The only thing I can say is I agree with how the creativity has gone down. Animation, really good, but where is that creativity and fluid motion characters had? You can have both (providing if they have the budget) but they seem to favor more of animation of objects rather than animation of characters… *sigh*

I agree with your analysis of Alicizaton, I kind of missed the old traits in Ordinal Scale (but without any complaints, I liked the new way) but yeah, it still seems to me something is missing in new anime,i ‘m still enjoying the whim they gave and are still giving to the anime but yes, yes, the old style was cooler.
As I said in your livestream this week I still think Progressive will be adapted about 2/3 years ahead, if I’m not mistaken soon enough material for a 12ep anime would be WELL interesting if they wanted to bring back their SAO ‘roots’ with that style of animation, traits and why not (it would be wonderful) to call Tomohiko back in the direction, in my honest opinion part of the small mistakes Alicization has had so far is because of his lack (and another changes too).
Surely SAO still has a lot of time and breath to live so we always want they to take good care of the work we like hahah
