I don’t know, I am a big fan of how they did Kirito in this abridged series, but unlike most of the people here, I actually like the original Kirito to. I think the key with this series and other abridged series is to not put too much weight on what the original character was like. This Kirito is a brand new character in a slightly new story, try to project as little as possible and I think you will come to enjoy the character more. But like I said, I love both versions alot, though I actually feel like a lot of the VAs in the abridge are surprisingly really good lol

How can Abridged Kirito detract from the original character when Abridged Kirito is an entirely new character? I kind of get not enjoying the dickishness but that’s the entire point. Character development guys.

Please watch Exclamation Point’s review/comparison of the original vs the abridged series. Pretty much the best explanation out there IMO. A few friends of mine I introduced to Something Witty Entertainment’s parody had similar reactions to you guys: mainly saying that Kirito is an asshole and that the original is better. After they watched episode 5 and onwards, though, they changed their tune. They gained a better appreciation of it when I showed them Exclamation Point’s review. Maybe you guys appreciate it better, too.

I know that these are old, but all these guys do is complain about the humor in sao abridged, then laugh at all of the jokes. Renegades React is a much better, and grounded channel.

Kirito in SAO Abridged is more like a kid who’s been nobody and happened to be good at game so he can mock other people who aren’t as good at it as he is. So he’s basically more or less like a real person and not a cliche’. Huh, Kirito is more like KIRA YAMATO, also incredibly bland and awful jesus-like protagonist… Who could have thought.

I find asshole Kirito more interesting. The original just felt bland and a bit generic to me. Many great anime have that kind of powerful main male protagonist who the best of his kind, but almost all are practically perfect except for a flaw or two. But hey also have a unique personality to them. Light thinks he’s the god a new world, Goku’s a naive idiot, meliodis (probably spelled that wrong) is comedic and well (skip pad that other detail), and kirito’s thing is that he’s a loner. All characters I just mentioned have that except to a lesser digree in some cases, and it’s a tiny part of them compared to their whole personality. Abridged Kirito however, is an person who’s full of himself and for a logical reason he’s as good as he thinks he is. It’s why Rick from rick and Morty is so like able, he’s a jerk but what I call the correct asshole. One who has a reason to his personality. He’s not some perfect hero he’s just some kid who’s good at MMOs.

I Think your biggest issue with this is that you Kind of misunderstand what that is supposed to be. Its not just a shortening of the story, its a complete retelling in Form of a parody

It’s funny I used to dislike what they were doing to Abridged Kirito like the rest of you when I first started watching this but now I freaking love what they have done with him. I get the point of what they were aiming for, in retrospect, and they nailed it perfectly.
It goes to show that if you have a vision then you must focus on what you can do to bring it to life and to ignore the criticism.
