I remember Miyazaki said something about including “ma” into his movies which basically means adding scenes that don’t necessarily add to the plot but create an emotional feel or ambiance. Scenes like the rolling green hills with the wind blowing through the grass, when Chihiro is looking out at the moon and water, the train ride, etc. Miyazaki also creates the storyboards first and then creates a plot after that which creates the unique experience. His films have to be some of my favorites.

Princess Mononoke is my favorite from Studio Ghibli. Other anime movie greats would be Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the Shell, Akira, and Spriggan. Also check out Evangelion for the greatest anime series ever.
