Right before they enter the grandline, one piece world will be explained but not thoroughly, yet. It will explain again right after they arrived, and explain again later and later. It is kinda like they adventure to the an unknown sea but later they would find out some clues, hints or an event that explain what their world is, how dangerous the grandline are, and how can One Piece, as the treasure they re looking for, can be found out..
What a great journey that you should give it a try.. And like you said, it IS well-written..
A great review sir even you only watched it "only" until buggy’s arc..

I think you nailed this review. If you’re interested check out one piece world explained by tekking101 he breaks everything down. (With Minor spoilers) Imo, the world building in one piece is second only to lotr. Oda is a master at what he does!

The minor issue you mentioned is not even something onepiece fans talk about because while you keep watching the anime more questions will be asked and their answers will be found in the next arc or saga.

I don’t know if you like manga/comic or not, but you should read the manga in my opinion it’s better than the anime and you can get into the story and the series much faster, the phasing in the anime it’s very slow, they drag to much the episodes sometimes, also has filler(not canon material), but that’s up to you. Great review man.

eh entertainment is subjective…if something makes you feel or learn but isn’t necessarily entertaining or up beat it doesn’t mean it isn’t entertaining….if i feel every emotion during a show i feel it entertained me…..feeling sad or mad is entertaining too even if that’s all a show is…I feel like one piece fans overrate that aspect of the series to death…it may be fun but so what…that doesn’t mean its perfect or better than something that is slower and tries to be more meaningful and emotional like say Naruto…they are just different shows…one tries to give storytelling and emotion of a higher level and then do mindless stuff like its dragonball it combines both worlds but Naruto will do that too just not as much and it will focus on the wright of a serious scene more then one  piece which just moves on cause its more about adventure then staying grounded to 1 message…it chooses to be goofy and out there and that’s fine if you like that sort of thing but it doesn’t mean it has discovered some unknown new way of storytelling…it just hit your fantasy tastes cause it doesn’t remind you too much of relaity…and if you love it fine but don’t expect everyone to just accept a goofy long over the top show like one piece…it isn’t for everyone…some people like deeper shows more and would like one piece if the laughs and designs and powers weren’t so goofy and the story tried to be more serious and grounded…but those elements are in there too and done well just not as much and that is what made it popular is its no fuks given attitude…it wont try to be something its not for too long..it tries to be emotional and succeeds at it very well but then wont try to depress you for too long…if that makes sense..and that can ruin the impact but to some they prefer that

One Piece uses information about their world in an interesting way: Everything is already in place from the beginning, but the author only reveals small pieces from time to time, thereby expanding the world along with the story, giving us just enough information to get along. Once Luffies crew get to the Grand Line, they quickly go over all the questions and explain, why you can’t just enter from the surrounding seas, for example.

And, as I said, everything is still in place from the start. In Luffies flashback, Shanks does something we kinda just accept for a while…and which gets an actual explanation over 500 episodes later. In Buggies flashback, a random crewman appeared, who could just as well be a throwaway person…but he as well gets important hundreds of chapters later. Right in the grandline, there is a short, tragic story-arc about a certain creature, that basically is a perfect introductory/sortish filler…until, once again, a few hundred chapters we suddenly get more info, that turns the story completely on its head. Stuff is there from the beginning, but the Mangaka knows to keep secrets for a later reveal, that actually makes rereading and rewatching a lot of fun.

Though…as with most Animes, One Piece takes a lot of liberties in comparism to the Manga for a while (We don’t meet Nami until the Buggy-Arc in he Manga, for starters). The Anime starts out by twisting a few canonical things about the story, and for a while longer uses some fairly bad filler lacking the input of the creator, and contradicting him on later points as a result. Worst offender probably being the Filler Arc right before the Grand Line, where a) They use an "Admiral", a title, we later officially learn is only held by three MArines, and they are not a laughingstock like this Admiral, but actual, incredible dangerous threats, b) Zoro cuts through steel, although right in the next Saga, his inability to cut through steel is a big plot point, and c) They introduce dragons…which are later said to be extinct

Well, when you follow the story it will tell you bit by bit about the grand lines. I have been reading the manga since high school. All of this scenes does bring back memories. If you like fantasy/comedy anime you should watch this anime it has everything e.g. human with superpower, giants, mermaids, gnomes, sky island, women island, underwater world, zombies, unicorn, dragons, monsters, furries, kraken, elephant island, cake island, chocolate island, samurai, ninja and others. The list does goes on.. what amazing is that all these creatures were in the same universe.

The funny part is that the first scene of the anime that you put on the screen is from one the worst filler arc in the whole series! It’s not cannon. That scene where he is a full giant.

You can’t give a review about one piece before atleast episode 61 (minus the filler arc from 54 to 60)

OP isn’t something you get invested into just by watching 5 episodes. The story and world opens up gradually as episodes go by. The pacing is kinda slow, especially in the beginning but it’s an adventure that needs to be experienced. I think around episode 40 is considered to be the golden point of where one piece decides what show it’s going to really be, and by this point you are either completely hooked or it’s not your thing.
Eiichiro Oda is pretty unique in how he builds a huge world and how this world evolves with time affecting everyone inside it. How most characters has more to them they you may think at first look. How he plants seeds early on for future story development. And how behind such goofy light-hearted artstyle he hides so much drama and problems that resonate with our real world. It’s such an emotional roller coaster. One time you laugh your ass off and the other time you cry like a goat. It’s a crazy ride. No other anime or manga ever did that. And he did all that singlehandedly, wrote the story and drew the manga.
I introduced my non-anime friend to it, we speed-watched it in three months and now he’s the biggest fan. He even tried to hide how he’s actually crying during some parts (people who watched will know exactly which parts). I was watching for the 3rd time but i was still shaking and tearing up.
