Finally, my review of this anime. I have a lot of shit to say about it. Over 10 years in the making.
As you can tell, my tastes usually go against the grain and may not be very popular and that’s fine with me. If you like this show, that’s fine…you’re allowed.
Just don’t tell me what to like or that I didn’t get it.
Anime fans can be just as bad, if not worse than Sony Drones.

Random things happening and over-the-top pretentious character interaction gives the impression of complexity. It’s not organized in any way to be the "deep, complex, exploration of the human psyche" that it’s claimed to be. The characters are not likable and the story doesn’t make sense (I’m not even gonna start on the endings). I’m told that your not supposed to like them and it’s not supposed to make sense, as if that makes it any better.
It is a good show, but NOT a masterpiece in any way.

Evangelion isn’t deep or complicated in anyway – all Evangelion is cheap shock value and slides shows thrown together too fool stupid people into thinking it has even an atom of meaning. Not confusing at all if you actually think about it.
Add on top that the plot is boring and becomes non-existant towards the end, 1-D characters, pathetic animation (even towards the start of the show) and more.
The deconstruction isn’t original either – Macross Plus, Ideon and Gundam did the things Evangelion did it "for the first time" long before Evangelion existed.
Gunbuster! & Nadia are far superior to this complete garbage.

This was my first and still favorite anime of all time. But honestly it’s pretty dated, it was groundbreaking and different at release for sure. But I wouldn’t really recommend this series to too many people, we all have individual likes and dislikes. I don’t have any friends who have even seen this series, but I doubt they’d enjoy it much. Sorry you didn’t like it, what anime are you into?

I totally gave up on anime right after Attack on Titan became mainstream. Anime is a joke now. I’d advise everyone to just follow your favorite directors or creators. Too many bull shit out there now.

Groundbreaking, however, overrated as all fuck. Watched it all through and would not recommend a second watch. Unlikable characters, muddled plots, and not to mention the terrible ending. I think the only real strengths of this anime is that, it seems to be something you ‘experience’ rather than watch. Hard to explain. Also I like the open ending interpretations. That being said, it is experimental and I saw where they were going with it, and kudos for going in a different direction. Ultimately, the execution is fucking terrible beyond belief and it’s just made 100% worse with the absolutely UNLIKABLE characters. On a side note I liked the design of the EVAS, pretty cool.

I kept hearing over and over how Evangelion was so great. I’m 7 episodes in, the story is generic, the characters are boring, I like the art but that’s about it, other than that it’s trash.

I like the mecha fight scenes, but the story is just grating to the senses. It’s like looking at your pretty, sexy teacher wearing a blouse showing her ample cleavage and a miniskirt hugging her finely sculpted ass and thighs… while she slowly, continously scratches the blackboard with her nails.

NGE was indeed awful. I hate when people say that it’s about the understanding of the human mind when a scenario comes to action and “depth analysis” of a person’s reality and how it’s up to us as the individual to figure it out for ourselves. I say that’s a load of BS. First off… what kind of person would do the things Shinji did in EoE? Even a mentally handicapped teenager would never dare masturbate over a comatose Asuka… no matter what circumstance!! Every human has a fight or flight survival response! They don’t sit in a corner and wait for death to greet them… they either fight back or run until their last breath. Depression takes a back seat in these life or death situations. Also Lilith and Adam as well EoE Rei and Kowaru ARE NOT divine beings. Just because you can change the outcome of a single planet, it still does not make you divine… and certainly nowhere near God. These so-called angels are no more than extra terrestrial organisms with certain abilities, but nothing more. NGE is not deep, it’s super overrated, and it sucks.

I hated Evangelion. I went into it honestly thinking it was just going to be giant robots fighting monsters and that it wouldn’t take itself too seriously, instead I was treated to 26 episodes of melodramatic emo teenagers whining about how shitty life is. I’m serious when I say this, Pacific Rim is what Evangelion should have been.

Both Eva haters and Eva overthinkers hardcore fans are brainless idiots. Eva is not a masterpiece because of symbolism: even Anno himself said that the symbolism is only meant to look cool. The religious symbolism it’s only meant to say: these themes affect all of humanity. And these themes are, basically, the hardship of interacting with fellow human beings without hurting or being hurt. It’s the ”hedgehog dilemma”. But haters are just as idiotic. You can’t call a show ”garbage” because you didn’t like it or understand it. And by’ ”understand it” I’m not referring to its themes, which are fairly simple, but to the plot itself, which is purposely told in a cryptic way. So you’ll need to rewatch it three times to get a grasp of what’s going on. And I think the characters in Evangelion are beautifully written, they are meant to be dislikeble, but you can actually connect with them and be moved by what they suffer. Of course, it comes down to personal taste and sensibility. But the argument ”I get it, there is nothing to get”or ”Shinji is just a pussy” or ”Asuka is just a cunt” are the most brainless arguments there are. Eva is at least deep when it comes to characters, so show a little bit of respect.

see at first glance yea the fapping scene does seem stupid until you think of it. watch and read whay ano says carfully its quite disturbing because he kinda admitted to doing that him self. seriously its hard to explain but the last scene was him trying to seek confirmation for this deeds the last words of the movie were got from the voice actor her self when ano explained a similar fapping situation to her than asked what would you say to him. she said how disgusting then he said this is the last word of the series. after stating that he is shinji. so the opening fapping scene and the end "how disgusting line" was an actual response from a woman to ensure him that this happend and it was wrong for him to do it. it actually really sad for this man to share such a disturbing part of himself like that to us and it should be respected that he is telling people.

ok not saying you have to like it. however i just re-watched this show before i was like ok this isnt bad but then i thought of it and the amount of thought that Ano (the creator) put in to this is actually unbelievable. i mean the messages he was trying to convey is truly sad that it gets over looked the reason why im so passionate about this show is because he wrote this in a state of depression and a lot of the events are mirrors of his life in a way. much like me who is in a state of depression seeing it conveyed so realistically and authentically is absolutely beautiful to see this from another person and see that other people are like me. yes so maybe some of the messages might be lost to some people and some of the plot points but the more i thought of this show the more it made sense also the more i was depressed the more it hit me. there are some parts of this show if you look the writer is literally confessing extremely dark sins and is just putting his mind and inner thoughts and letting us see it. he did say that he was shinji so to to show this show disrespect is to show this absoulutly poor man disrespect to his life and inner feeling. so maybe it was different for me becuase i knew what it was like to feel how he did. so im not saying to like this show im just saying to give the man credit for the crazyness he told us about his own life. some parts i could explain but it would take to long but i will if you ask. some parts of show are disturbing to watch when you know whats actually going on. i give my absolute respect to creator of this show Ano.

A thing I’d like to add on your ( *perfect* , by the way, I 100% agree) review of NGE, is the set of bullshit that Hideaki Anno successfully managed to pollute the anime community with, using his work, thanks to which he stills fills his pockets with money to this very day:
1. Edgyness masqueraded as realism: I have read so many times in different videos that the NGE characters are better than any other "generic" anime character that if I had 1 dollar for each I could propably buy myself the Earth and order their execution of the dumbasses who write such bs. For starters Shinji and the rest of the characters of NGE are *not* realistic. They are edgy. "Why is their personality so fucked?", "How can there have never been one person in so many years of Shinji’s life to care about him?", "Why doesn’t anyone take such obviously fucked up kids to a phychologist?", "Why do they have the EVA pilot with the biggest success record live with an alcohol-for-blood commander along with an annoying bitch that was trained to pilot the only actual EVA made for battle yet sucks at it more than the emotionless clone?". These are realistic and important questions that are never answered, at least not in the anime. If Shinji truly was realistic he’d propably have just gone mad from all this shit and end his *unrealistic* edgy excuse of a world. This has unfortunately passed to the next generations and by 2018 the edgy anime and manga that pretent to be realistic have rapidly increased in number. Note that the so called generic anime characters most of the time are actually characters who are or were very original characters for their time and are a bit realistic as well. Most common thing they have is that they are shounen characters, edgelords’ biggest enemy.
2. "Everyday normal average person" protagonist: Aka mary sues. "Oh Shinji is such an ordinary kid" who was just given a *fucking cyborg with his dead mother inside it* and is *the son of the two jerks who started this entire apocalypse* and is just given *the power to return life on Earth.* And this is the exact same problem every other other "everyday normal average person" protagonist has. They are just given things, powers and/or help at random, because a real everyday person can simply not be a protagonist. A protagonist *has* to stand out. That is what a protagonist is. And an everyday person simply can’t. When the writers of such crappy stories realise that they just start to give the character plot devices and make plot holes so that their "everyday normal average person" can shine. By the time he starts to shine of course he’s no "everyday normal average person" but no dumbass who likes to pretend he’s deep cares about that.
3. Criticising what shouldn’t be criticised: In this case gundam: "Shinji is how a kid would really react to riding a gundam to fight evil monsters." There are no giant robots so why *should* the protagonists be realistic? Dumbasses prefer to ignore of course such questions for the sake of hating anything that’s fun. And now we ‘re full of idiots who make parodies of genre that weren’t meant to be realistic.
4. Otaku describing: "That’s how an otaku is." , "That’s how you otakus are". I. Don’t. Care. About. How. Otakus. Are. No reasonable person would care about how shut-ins are. Ironically NGE makes a fuckton of money out of the very otakus Hideaki Anno constantly criticises. And he propably realises that and continues doing it for that exact reason.

Would you like me to explain to you what the Angels are and what they’re after? I honestly don’t mind you not liking the show out of personal preference but it really is stated very clearly in some of the later episodes. Pretty sure Misato tells it to Shinji in the car on the way to NERV in episode 24. Could be the manga I’m remembering there, but the show definitely did tell us.
On another note, you don’t seem to have a very positive attitude towards anything, lighten up 🙂

I love the designs of the evas and angels but that is about it when it comes to praise…Evangleion has horrible characters, I root for the angels more than I do shinji.
Allow me to point ot what I call a REAL masterpiece…Gojira (1954)
That movie had real symbolism in the fact that it was an allegory of the A-bomb and it had characters who felt were real..You know your series sucks when a Giant Radioactive Dinosaur is more relatable then your work and that a man in a eye patch is more human than your main protagonist…I gave up on it a long time ago, i’ll admit it influenced me in terms of monster designs but that is it…OH also look at gundam 0079 for how this is done right..
