Oh no, I’m late again D:
In hindsight I really should’ve checked your channel yesterday instead of watching the GoT finale, that wasn’t really worth it.
What I like about this episode is that it gives Fujutsuki a reason to be in the story. Up unti this point he wasn’t really a character, all he ever did was scold Asuka and Shinji that one time and other then that he talked to Gendo.
Also a small detail that nobody really talks about: We see how much of a family buiseness Nerv acually is. Kinda makes sense for the UN-Admiral in Ep. 8 or the people who build Jet Alone in Ep.7 to be pissed, given that fact that Nerv is run by the same few people and their children for over a decade, with increadible funding, no legal regulation and seemingly no external controll whatsoever.
Since I am so late, I checked the other commenters and it seems like they already took care about most of the important stuff regarding the plot. So yeah. Characters? Gendo is fairly one-dimensional and evil this episode, Misato doesn’t really have much to do with anything this episode, Kaji dies and thats pretty much it, Ritsuko and her mother are literaly the same person. Interesting stuff but nothing so complex one could write half an essay about. (Unlike next episode *wink*)
I guess that will be it for this episode, the other commenters took good care you didn’t miss anything. The only other thing in this episode that I find interesting is Shinji making a massive mistake because of his low self esteem again. It should be obvious that simply beeing there for Misato, not even talking to her, just beeing there would be the perfect thing to do now. But because he thinks he’s worthless and can’t help, he does the worst possible thing. Nothing at all. And so he drifts further away from this person that cares about him. That’s just a perfect little microcosm of his relation to other people and hits way to close to home for my taste.
Is it time guys? I already feel physicaly ill just thinking about the opening scene of next episode. My favorite episode, yet the one I dislike watching the most. The magic of Eva. See you all for "the Assault by Händels Messiah, accompanied by Sigmund Freud and half the german dictionary". Don’t worry, I’ll translate.
That will more than make up for the short comment this time, I’ll have to force myself to only write the most important stuff.

So we lost our unsung hero Kaji he has now entrust Misato to carry on his mission a sad lost indeed , great episode so much happen I’m glad I re watched it that message for Misato at the end

according to Anno it’s canon that he’s killed offscreen by some random NERV goon, they just gave her her gun back in that one scene as a matter of procedure. it might have been deliberately ambiguous though.
– In episode 20, when Ritsuko comes out with the plan to rescue Shinji, she says that it was based on data from about 10 years before, when something very similar happened. Yui’s experiment was in 2004
In episode 14 while Eva 00 goes berserk and punches the observation post/glass of the test chamber you can see Ritsuko with brown hair intead of blonde, she later says that the eva was trying to kill her. We now know that that was the hair color of Ritsuko’s mother and what she did to Rei in the past, looks to me like Eva 00 mistaken Ritsuko for her mother and attempted to avenge child Rei.. Nice detail
Its interesting that Gendo says to Fuyutsuki that the huge perfect spherical cave, underground structure that they made the Geofront and NERV in was already there and "natural" and it was the same as the one in Antarctica where they found Adam in
– After the second impact in antarctica Adam’s body was reduced to an embryonic state a d that’s the embryo Kaji gave to Gendo on episode 8 in a briefcase.. But also there is an "Adam" crucified at the basement of Nerv.. Very ambiguous at this point
-About Ritsuko’s mom.. after it zooms out after she kills Rei you can hear a thud. I think it’s pretty obvious that she realizes what she did and then jumps off the balcony and kills herself.
Kaji saying "the truth is with you" is I’m pretty sure saying he gave her the info he was collecting. Possibly related to the pill he puts on the nightstand in the last episode

It really is an anime very difficult to understand. I had to read a lot to understand the details because so much information is not given totally clearly. It was a good episode, and I believe that in the next episode they will reveal all the secret that surrounds Rey! ‘I regret that we didnt have any more scenes between Misato and Kanji, I really liked this couple.
