Another message I got from this movie is the importance of kindness and generosity. The elder sister gives Totoro the umbrella as soon as she sees it, and Totoro gives them the precious acorns in return. The boy gives his umbrella to the girls even though he is super shy. All those heartwarming moments make the characters so lovable.

I feel like a lot of people like my neighbour totoro just because totoro is cute but it has a very deep meaning. And I love how this video explains that.

Amazing analysis.
I too felt that dread when the girls are waiting at the bus stop. The atmosphere made it feel alot longer than 7 minutes.
But when Totoro appears I felt that relief

I didn’t like totoro when I watched it, but I knew I was missing something. This video helped me understand why people enjoy it and why it is considered a good movie. I’m glad to understand though I still do not enjoy the film.

Totoro was a character who always made me feel safe as a kid, and to this day I still like to pretend he’s real sometimes, so I can feel that same comfort I experienced as a kid. I still collect acorns as a little “gift” for Totoro-

Totoro is big slap on those Eurocentric films which always present magical beings as bodybuilders or human hourglasses.

Lovely post, this video. Nothing against this version, but I fell in love with the original dub of the film … different voice actors had a subtlety that I liked. What a lovely film creation.

The scene where mai and satsuki arguing at the situation about what’s going 2 happened 2 their mom is very similar 2 my older sister and me when we were young bcuz my dad had cancer and we don’t know what’s going 2 happened. So I think that’s why I love this movie so much.
