My Neighbor Totoro trailer
My Neighbor Totoro trailer
Based on suggestions by the class and the teacher, many changes were made to cut 2. Each cut has its own good and bad points. Comment on which one you think is better.

This is my own trailer cut for one of my favorite Studio Ghibli films, My Neighbor, Totoro (となりのトトロ).
I’ve always thought that Disney did Ghibli a disservice by releasing Totoro as a straight-to-DVD project. Even the trailer for it, bundled with other Ghibli DVDS, is cut with this in mind. My trailer was cut as if it was destined for the U.S. theaters.
Cut as the second assignment for a class learning Avid.
Soundtrack: The Wind Forest, by Mari Fujiwara:

Knowing the movie by heart, some of the captions like, "they will face their fears and open their hearts," will feel incredibly misleading because this is a film that is minimalist at best, where the characters aren’t facing a lot of conflicts or personal issues.
However, I do commend you for the effort because this would be a tough movie to market for a mainstream audience anyway. It’s geared towards of very niche audience in my opinion.
If I had to give notes, just lose the captions telling us the story and focus on the imagery. Let the images speak for themselves. But still keep the Miyazaki captions.

I think Hayao Miyazaki made this about about a incident in Japan serial killer/ child murderer, the murdering of the youngest child . Her and her sister see the spirits of the forest because they are close to death ..This is not told in the move but …

My friends in the arrogantsia are raving about this. A festival of superiority-signalling where repressed middle classes all compete to pretend they see something in a kids film that your pleb never could. At the cinema, there will be forced, posh mini-chuckles for the same reasons.

It may be Japanese, but the soundtrack to this trailer is definitely Nina Simone’s "Ain’t Got No, I Got Life"…on a violin nonetheless. Just downloaded this movie for my two boys…hard to find decent movies for kids anymore – sucks being a kid nowadays I suppose.
