My favorite My Hero moment from first season is Deku seeing Ochako in danger and just running without a moment’s hesitation. That always stuck with me in part because it was an amazing use of You Say Run, the track, but also showcases a core aspect of Deku: his selflessness. He’s the guy who without a moment’s hesitation will try to save somebody, no matter how hard or scared he might be. That to me is being a hero: It’s one thing to have courage, but another thing to act on that courage in the face of fear or adversity. Plus, it highlights a brilliant element of this series: actions speak louder than words.

Ochaco’s power is gravity actually, she touches objects and controls their reaction to gravity. She can’t control them.

I agree, My Hero had a strong season 1. I used to like this show a lot until I realized all the plot armor and contrivances. Season 3 is where I felt there was an overall decline.

I love that fight with All Might and Nomu. It’s one of better anime fights I’ve seen. I don’t usually tear up for those swelling moments in fights but just that small 4-ish minute fight is purely amazing to me. The song is used perfectly there, but I don’t feel it goes with everything

Great review. I find that My Hero Academia Season 1 very much is a chapter zero; a prologue for what is to come. Because, looking back on it(Manga and anime fan), the season does have some issues. As you say, only the central cast is developed, namely Deku, All Might etc. I believe that is great because it does not bombard the viewer with all this information. It’s scaffolding. Also, I do think that the series does slack a bit during the middle and while the USJ arc is amazing, it ends before it can carry the momentum. That is due to the limited episode count. It is why I find Second and even third season amazing. Twenty-five episodes is the sweet spot for this show. Overall, if I were to give Season One a score I’d give it a 88%. It is as you say, Yu Yu Hakusho with a bit of Tiger and Bunny. It’s great.

Hey Mike, I love your videos watch almost all of them. Just a bit of constructive criticism. For most of the video you went of what the plot of the entire season 1 of MHA was an didn’t really talk about YOUR review of the season. You didn’t mention what you thought about those parts of the season, just sort of narrated through the season without really giving your opinion on what you thought.
As most people who watch this have already seen the show, this was a bit boring to watch. I really just wanted to hear you opinion on the show. Maybe the narration style of review can still work, but you should really STOP, give your thoughts on the arc/portion of the show you just talked about, then continue.
Example, from about the start of the video to 4 minutes, you talked about the opening of the arc and how deku wants to be a hero and how he gets his power etc etc. But you never stopped to mention how you thought this intro to the series was handled. How it compares to other similar anime (especially dbz since that is your main show that you cover here on LSM). Anyway good job!

Its an enjoyable shounen anime with fun characters with unique characteristics and skill sets. Most of the characters get developed and get spot light and the main character gets better throughout the episodes. The evil boss is still a mystery and we barely know anything (anime only). This is pretty much the next naruto but better.

For season 1, my favourite moments would definitely be in episode 2 when Deku tried to save Bakugou tied with All Might telling Deku he too can be a hero.

I’m on episode 8 of season 1 and I don’t get the appeal. I enjoyed the first 3 episodes. The characters so far are boring and uninspiring. The rivalry between deku and that other guy is dumb imo. Idk why people think this is next naruto.
