Misato is overprotective of Shinji because of him being a boy. Her elektra complex is in full display here. Of course, she is a terrible guardian, but her love towards the three of them is genuine. (Although I am not much sure about Rei, as Misato almost completely ignores her after learning about her truth). Misato is definitely a stronger woman than Asuka, as she has lived through kinda similar situations and emerged as a fun-loving nice woman (atleast in outside). I think she cares about Asuka, but thinks of her nothing but an obnoxious loser.
