I swear to god if Crunchyroll "oscar snubs" this series for Tokyo ghoul and Mha despite loving those two, ima flip my led. I’m hooked on this. And it’s only three episodes. This whole thing is just cinematically beautiful. It’s my anime of year already. Don’t think that will change despite being a mha and One punch man manga reader and being excited for what will happen in both. Megalo box is just quality in all forms:writing, story, music, animation, and more

Well I see the most likely route would them combining the two gears the shit one with the prototype. In order to make something new. The shit one was too focused on strength and the prototype was balanced and on the level of the new stuff together you get a gear that could probably support you to fight the best.

Quick thing I noticed: When they rewrote the ID, one of the dates as May 13, 2073. That’s exactly one hundred year since the last chapter of Ashita no Joe. So my theory is Megalo Box is in the far future in the same AnJ universe. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashita_no_Joe

First of all, the MC is a babe! This is what an MC should look like.
Second, the animation and style is fantastic. Very lively. No overuse of filters and oversaturated colors and lens flares. Very old school.
Third, this anine is getting really interesting. It had good world building which I loved and I enjoyed the training session. Love how they actually explain different strategies and techniques. It feels kind of grounded. I’m curious to where it goes next!

The hat has a family picture in it with the older male wearing the hat. His parents ded.
To expand. The kids originally "found" the prototype gear. Best guess is that the main kid’s parents could’ve had some part in developing the gear, if not directly being responsible for it.(Unlikely due to how quickly they destroyed the gear.) But eh, it’s an idea.

About Sashio hat, not sure if you noticed but for 2 sec. you can see that there’s a photography in his hat in one scene and it seem like a family picture, that’s probably why his hat is so important to him because of the photography in it. It’s a small detail maybe hard to see, but i think a important one.

it has one of those classic old anime feels but i dont think the story is much its just a cliche anime boxing story
