Love him or hate him, Floch really is up there with the main cast. He can hold his own against some of the strongest characters by sheer determination. Crazy to think that Isayama originally was just going to leave him as a small side-character but decided there needed to be a voice against the main characters. Boy did he really take Floch down that road too, amazing. I still hate Floch’s guts but it is true that he never once wavered in his beliefs, which is admirable on it’s own.

To me the philosophy of AOT has always been about grey moral values depending on which side. The moment Isayama make it black and white genocide bad, pacifism good it went downhill for me.
Ok if genocide is bad and Eren and Floch is wrong, then what is the other choice? Just Paridis’ mere existence already prompted the world to gather their armies in Liberio to destroy them (which Eren’s plan dealt a huge blow and delayed it). The world decided to destroy Paradis first, now the other way around.
And you have to remember that you are more likely to be biased for the pacifist protagonists just bc they’re protagonists and the story is told from their perspective. They’re a group of 6 individuals who decided to stop Eren’s genocide, which effectively means go against their own people, or at least the Jeagerists, the majority of their people.
If they stop Eren, then what? Wait for the world to retaliate and defend against it without Titans and a 3-century knowledge gap?
Isayama didn’t even give the pacifist protagonists the character development of why they would want to stop Eren. They just do because. From a spectator’s perspective, sure you can easily say genocide is bad. But Eldians are targeted by the whole world just because of their existence.
Now, if you’re a Jewish person in 1940s, with your thumb on a nuclear button that can destroy all of Nazi Germany, would you do it, given their clear willingness to wipe out your people? Your people, or the world that wants to wipe out your people?
