"Why is the redhead the only one who survived?"
Funny enough you can see him ducking down on his horse when the rocks are hitting everyone else. This is shown in the original manga, and if you pause the anime you can see him doing it, too. He survived because he was more cowardly (and a little bit of luck)!

if you wonder why floch survived, you can check the scence when marlo was hit in the head. Floch’s head was very low while others were riding straight up, and he would got hit if he ride the horse sitting straight.
lower the head is a technique used by calvary to avoid bullet while advancing in distance, looks like being scared saved his life.

Attack on titans is one of the best anime /manga of all time, it’s on my top 10 being on my number 6 spot.
It’s one of the few who have a high quality animation that surpass the manga.
