All they had to do is have Hanabi do what Kakashi did during the land of waves (the two mist chuunin with the chains/claws) arc and assess the situation to make sure she has it under control then hang back and let the kids take the lead. If they screw up so bad one of them is about to die/fail the mission Hanabi swoops in and makes the necessary corrections.
Then she has a mentoring moment after its over so the kids can learn from their mistakes if they were going to botch the job or praise and pointing out what they did right if the kids succeed on their own.
Hanabi won’t need to be nerfed and it gives a logical reason for why she just doesn’t destroy those other ninja.
